I'm going to assume you are talking about Stonewall Jackson up here that stands to make the playoffs at 0-10. Lack of teams in 1A in Region B. Highland and Galieo Magnet don't play football and Rappahannock County doesn't play a district schedule.Should Vhsl cover travel cost to insure playoff brackets are consistent across the board ? Also a team with a loosing record should not be competing in playoffs , and surely not an 0-10 team that coach should decline the berth it's not earned and its embarrassing to the kids
Cumberland also currently sits at 0-6 for the season and will automatically make the playoffs.I'm going to assume you are talking about Stonewall Jackson up here that stands to make the playoffs at 0-10. I would tend to agree with those posters that think that PM and Covington should probably slide over to Region B from C. I know that moving anyone from A to B would create some travel issues...
May Rapp Co should consider playing a district schedule again......they'd make the playoffs!!!!Two possible 0-10 teams make the playoffs! Wow! For one region that would be a first I think!
No I wasn't speaking on any particular programI'm going to assume you are talking about Stonewall Jackson up here that stands to make the playoffs at 0-10. Lack of teams in 1A in Region B. Highland and Galieo Magnet don't play football and Rappahannock County doesn't play a district schedule.

Probably! Of course I am going to assume that they may have to replace one of those W's next year. On that note, its hard to believe how far King and Queen has dropped since the early 90's! At one time, with guys like Mike Robinson (member of Super Bowl champ Packer team), Ronnie Harvey-one of the best during the time in the Middle Peninsula/Northern Neck, Dwaine Robinson- late release from the Redskins training camp, Mike Hill-starter at VUU, Ellis Robinson 46 ft+ triple jumper..all on the same team...and assistant coach Earl Hawkins on the sideline-he himself a former NFL player... State semifinals in '89 and champs I believe in '90.May Rapp Co should consider playing a district schedule again......they'd make the playoffs!!!!
Jeff was a first-class guy! And you are correct that they were in the NND - along with KW and Middlesex when they won! Remember how they beat Strasburg in semifinals? Kid got hurt late on cold day and after the injury Strasburg fumbled at K&Q 1 yd line!Jeff Mechling got that program pointed in the right direction. they lost 31 in a row before winning one in '87. The next year they were in the playoffs and gave Rappahannock all it wanted in a first round game. K&Q might've won if not for a freak incident before the game. The kids were so fired up they started hitting a light pole and one of there best linemen gave the pole a forearm shiver and broke his arm.
One hardly recalled fact is that K&Q was a member of the Northern Neck District when they won the state title in 1990.
Coach McCray was the head coach and a nice guy, but IMO and in many others the actual coaching of that team was done by Earl Hawkins- another top-notch guy and a great football mind. Joe was a trip! I always enjoyed talking with him and he was a good sport-win or lose. I do remember one night at Nawthumberland (as Coach Jett used to say) that he beat the Indians 74-0 and was on-side kicking at the end to get the ball back so that Ronnie Harvey could get more yards rushing. Donn Belfield was the voice of the Indians in those days and I'll never forget the announcement "There you go ladies and gentleman...74-0 and you've just seen an on-side kick attempt.."Is Mechling still around? I knew he helped out at WP not too long ago but not sure if he's still helping them. He was my gym teacher back in the 80s when I was in elementary school when I went to K&Q schools. Was a really nice guy and yes he got that program turned around and then Joe McCray came in and took his spot and was the head coach when they won the state title.
Yes I played for Coach Brookes and he has been a big influence on my life and with me coaching. We are still close to this day and remain in contact as much as possible.kwhs95- Did you play for Coach Brookes? Now there is a football legend! And a great guy to boot!
Absolutely I do! It was at a girls game IIRC and he was playing that kid a game of 1 on 1 and he did so shirtless...LOL!!Pawfan,
Do you remember Joe's basketball show during halftime of a hoops game!!! What entertainment!!!!
