Woodberry Forest defeated St Christophers 35-13 on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers overcame four turnovers to claim at least a share of the Virginia Prep League title.
The 1st quarter was scoreless with the help of two redzone turnovers by Woodberry Forest inside the St Christopher's 5-yard line. However, the Tigers would score on their next four possessions to take a 28-0 lead at halftime. Cornerback Lori Portugal picked off a pass and returned it to the Saints 12-yard line. Senior Nathaniel Tyrell converted the turnover in to points with a 3-yard touchdown run. Tyrell also broke several tackles while running 40 yards for a touchdown with 5:55 to go before halftime to give the Tigers a 21-0 lead.
Woodberry Forest quarterback Christian Zaytoun was near flawless completing 11 of 12 passes for 114 yards including two second quarter touchdown passes. He connected with junior Zach Roderick on a post route for a 55 yard score and after scrambling around, he found Pat Shea for a 10 yard touchdown completion with two minutes left in the half.
Evans Riviere also had a big game running behind lineman Clark Yarbrough, Darby Henagan and Sam Baker for 176 yards on 23 carries. He scored the Tigers final touchdown on a 14-yard run with 4:07 to go in third quarter. Woodberry Forest ran for a season high 227 yards.
St Christopher's scored their two touchdowns on a 12-yard pass from Jeb Bermiss to Cole Claiborne in the 3rd quarter and a 35-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Alex Faniel to Sheldon Towell who made a great 2-handed catch for the touchdown.
