Two-time defending State champion Woodside was taken to overtime by city rival Denbigh but did enough to hang on for a 68-66 win. Radford commit Masiah Stevens had 19 of his 22 points after the halftime to lead the Wolverines.
Woodside started the game with an 11-0 lead and led 45-29 with 50 seconds remaining in the 3rd quarter. A layup by Stevens gave Woodside a 53-45 lead with 2:24 remaining in the game.
However, a huge 4th quarter by Jai'quan Gray erased the deficit and a three by Gray sent the game in to overtime tied 58-58.
Stevens scored five points in overtime to help Woodside prevent losing their 2nd straight game. Denbigh had a chance to tie in the closing seconds of overtime, but they weren't able to convert. Woodside left the door open by shooting only 4 of 8 from the free throw line.
Stevens finished with 22 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Callen Morrison added 16 points and five assists while sophomore Dannell Jarrett added 12 points. VCU commit Silas Barksdale was in foul trouble most of the game but finished with 8 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.
The Patriots were led by Gray with 26 points (4 treys) including 16 points in the 4th quarter. Kevin Parker added 22 points (2 treys) and eight rebounds.
