Kellam defeats Franklin 60-45
Kellam opened the game on a 9-0 run while cruising to a 60-45 win over Franklin in the 1st game of the 15th annual Vapreps Classic.
Brady Melville's 3-point play gave Kellam a 13-1 lead in the 1st quarter as the Knights took advanatge of a slow start by Lancaster.
The Broncos appear to still be in sleep mode with the early 11am start time. They missed all 12 shots in the 1st quarter and scored only 10 points in the 1st half points while trailing 23-10 at the break.
Franklin played much better in the 2nd half. Senior Chaevon Torrance was fouled after converting a 3-point basket and he converted the free throw for a 4-point play. Torrance helped pull the Broncos to within nine (41-32) early in the 4th quarter.
But that was as close as Franklin could get as senior Tyler Ellis scored half his points in the 4th quarter to close out the win for Kellam. He converted a 3-point play for a 12-point lead then made a reverse layup to give Kellam a 49-33 lead with a little over four minutes remaining.
Ellis finish with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Melville added 12 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Knights who secured their 5th straight Vapreps Classic win.
I was really impressed by Franklin 6-foot-5 senior Chaevon Torrence. He scored 30 of his teams 45 points while adding 10 rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
