Matoaca @ Dinwiddie

Fleming is a lot better than last year, but getting out of the Reg will be tough. IDK how good Matoaca is, compared to last year, but they smashed Fleming 42-3. I have no doubt Fleming can do it, but playing Richmond area competition in the playoffs will be a big step up compared to the BRD & RRD schedule they've play so far.

I'd love to see it, but there are some big obstacles in the way. I hope they rise to the occasion, and make it all the way to JMU. I can't see anybody beating Maury, but it would be a great experience for the players and coaches just to take that road together.
5C isn’t as strong as I hyped it up to be before the season. Matoaca, Bird and Louisa all have really good teams but definitely have their struggles as well. I think it’s a huge difference in Fleming coming 3.5 hours to Chesterfield and Matoaca going 3.5 hours to Roanoke, playing in the mountains on a cold November night/afternoon.

I personally think it will be GW and JF playing for the Region Championship. I haven’t seen GW play this year but I have seen JF play three times this year. I can say they have a QB that is very accurate. Their strong offensive line caters well to their option offense. It’s kind of like an option/misdirection offense. Looks like it can be pretty tough to prepare for.

Matoaca @ Dinwiddie

If Matoaca got William Fleming in the 5C Region Championship what would be your thoughts on that? Fleming is a very good team currently at 8-1. Saw them play Salem earlier this year. They have a solid running back commited to Syracuse. I know this is a 4A page but just wanted to throw it out there
I like Fleming in that matchup for the simple fact that they will slow the game down to neutralize Matoaca’s athletes. It will for sure be closer than it was last year but the way William Fleming has been taking care of business so far I believe that they can pull it off.

Lafayette 14 Poquoson 6

Game was exactly what I expected. Poquoson just keeps grinding and this years team looks better than lasts. Coach Duty and his staff...impressive every week, year after year. That first year they went 0-10....they've been a force ever since.
Coach Linn and his staff and their successes stand alone. Another top notch program. We really have some great coaching in the 757 to go along with some great kids and athletes. We're blessed in a lot ways.
I agree this years Poquoson team is better than last year, especially the defense, very disciplined, just never out of position.

Yeah, Tofu for pregame meals. The poor JV will have to endure impossible chicken nuggets.

It amazes me that people on both sides of the voting aisle believe the people will stand idly by and accept either party becoming a dictatorship. Call me naive, but I still have faith that Americans are not full blown imbeciles.
Not the impossible nuggets 😂

I think - not totally positive - the difference is a push notification will give you an alert on whichever device you use most frequently, be it mobile or computer. A push notification will likely send you a type of text and/or e-mail, whereas in the other form / regular case you may not get that 'alert' to let you know about the notification, but you would see it under your alerts tab whenever you view the site.

Hopefully that makes some sense and I didn't confuse you - and others - more.
Thank you for the response. It did make sense and will definitely aid my decision.

THE RVA SPORTS BREAKDOWN: VHSL Football Region Standings and Analysis

According to my calculations: If Atlee wins vs. Henrico, Powhatan wins vs. Richmond, and Hanover loses vs. Highland springs:

Atlee: 24.7
Hanover 24.7
Powhatan 24.5

This assumes that Huguenot beats Monacan and Spotsylvania beats Culpepper.

**I think the VHSL has the points incorrect for week 8 for Atlee. They gave them 10 bonus points when Armstrong only has 9 wins. They also gave Hanover 10 points for their win over King William when King William has only 4 wins. My calculations above are using the points that the VHSL has published on their website. Maybe I am missing something?? If you take away 2 bonus points for Hanover and 1 for Atlee then it would be the following:

Atlee: 24.6
Hanover: 24.5
Powhatan 24.5

Should be an interesting week 11!

Two questions, what are push notifications and their difference from the current notifications? What from a user perspective is the advantage of one form over the other? Thanks.

Guys & Gals - I know this is a hot button conversation item right now or better yet THE hot button topic... your friendly Publisher here just wants to chime in and state that we make sure we ALL stay within the Rivals & VaPreps message board posting guidelines.

That means let's not resort to any name-calling, personal attacks or obscene languge.

I don't mind the lively, spirited back-and-forth. We're not all going to agree, nor should we. I just don't need my notifications blowing up on a Football Friday (or any day for that matter) from my Admin team / board moderators... that is all. :)

Feeling a bit frustrated today.

@Virginia HS Football Fan, I think that your post is well thought out and a reasonable request for an amendment. This is something the VHSL should research and offer the membership alternatives.

Personally, I think Virginia should have five traditional classes for football and one for eight man football. Teams who are in Class 4 and below who have less than 20 players on the roster may play in this division. Going with your theory teams should have to request admission to this division by March. The state could be divided into two sections/regions for the regular season.

This new addition could extremely reduce the stress associated with fielding a team and allow for continued revenue.

The fact that JF and Gretna are playing again for next cycle is crazy work.
I like this matchup. Gretna beat JF in Crews 1st year and in year 2 it took a 4th quarter drive, last years game was close. This year it was lopsided but JF got a ton of experience and teaching tape on pass defense as Gretna has a great passing game with one of the best qbs in the area. He is also a junior so he will be back next year. It is also a great power points game for JF as gretna usually wins 7-8 games each year.

@BoKnowsSports and @jffootball23 you both have made valid points. I tend to lean towards Bo regarding scheduling tougher ood opponents, because it pays off in more ways than one. I will admit that the Seminole is a very tough district to maneuver and in most years most of the teams are playoff bound, so JF theory holds value. The difference is variety. By playing the same old district teams every year and beatable ood teams you don't get to see how your team will respond to the unfamiliar and an occasional smack in the mouth. It also provides additional rider points for a higher playoff seed if you defeat a quality opponent.

I have no clue who will win between GW and JF if they play, but what I do know is GW has used its tough ood schedule to put itself in position to play at home throughout the playoffs. Couldn't have been done without it. Good luck fellows.
