Powhatan at Dinwiddie

I can't say factually. I just remember the media GUYS, maybe Zach from RTD saying they were getting healthy. It may have been Hess and Criswell. I am honestly not sure who said it or what that meant. I just know it was discussed the past few weeks.
Thanks Navy! Can’t say I’ve followed them as closely as I had planned to this year. I watched the Monacan game and thought Powhatan looked very physical up front. Like the way their big boys block downfield. Almost a carbon copy of a traditional Salem team. I’m personally looking forward to seeing Henderson vs Dalton. The best player in the region vs arguably the most dominant.

Dept of Education

You will never get more people into education until you start making the job attractive again with commiserate pay. People have their crotch goblins then pawn them off onto other people for most of the day and expect top-notch work at near-bottom pay levels. What teachers are paid throughout this country is a joke and the crumbling infrastructure of American education is a direct reflection of the average jerkoff's bemoaning of having to pay a dime towards anything that doesn't directly and tangibly benefit them.

People just run their mouths and when it comes time to foot the bill all that yapping gets real quiet, real quick.
This is my argument too! Gotta incentive people to go into education someway, somehow. Why take on debt by going to school and getting a bachelors and even a masters for a job whose pay doesn’t equate to the time and effort? Instead a lot of the country right now is stuck being unable to attract new and better candidates, especially post Covid. It’s a great teacher shortage with many younger candidates either not going into it or getting out quickly. On top of that add in retirees and the position is getting squeezed. With the example of sports, I always ask to count your “walk on” coaches. Coaches who do not have a job inside the school system. This is not to say that walk on coaches cannot be very valuable or even great coaches in their own right, but it just shows sort of the death of people wanting to be teacher/coaches in the country. I have a buddy who works down in southside VA, where he says one school district has 2/4 head football coaches being walk ons, not to mention many assistants. And that’s just one little county as example. Again, not critiquing the walk on coach but I think it’s indicative of a larger issue of a lack of people coming into the profession who want to teach and coach. Raise pay, take away college debt (oooooh I know scary topic), do something to get some of your upper level graduates to want to go and shape the next generation

5C seedings

Bring Orange as well and that is a stout ten team district for the most part. Everyone would have to get better and would be better battle tested for the playoffs. All you have to do then is go out and schedule one crazy hard non-district game (preferably a Class 5 or 6 team) to help you get better.
As a Peninsula District alumnus, I'd recommend against a 10 district team. That 1 non-district game is for the birds. Having the flexibility to play 2-4 OOD games is a blessing. It allows you to play a variety of teams from different regions in the state. The poor Beach District doesn't see OOD unless it's scrimmages or playoffs and you've seen their success rate in the playoffs (or lack thereof).

Hayfield

Coach Overton and his staff have been doing this for years, from his PME youth program to High School he has been recruiting kids and stacking teams. He got cocky and greedy. Speaking 1st hand on what I know and seen with my own eyes is him recruit a kid from a 7v7 league this summer to come play for him. For anyone familiar with the area and I95 the kid lives in the Stafford/Fredericksburg area and somehow ended up at Hayfield shortl. Thats a heck of a commute for a kid and you dont take half of your team from your previous school without it being obvious..no way over 24 or more kids and their parents are moving and buying houses in the area just like that lol..I will say I feel sorry for these kids but the coaches and the parents shouldve known better. He has some of those parents brainwashed though from the youth league to high school.

State Runs through Altavista

Anything can happen any giving night but i don't see anybody beating Altavista this year . It's def one of the the strongest teams they have had in years . There oline is very strong up front very senior heavy with the Best RB in the State. Their defense is playing lights out flying around to the ball. Mixed in with all of that some series speed that can hurt you. Only Team i see giving them a good game is Essex and i think altavista is 14 points better then them. Just my opinion only but I really think it's Altavista to lose this year .
Altavista does look good this year but I wouldnt be so sure to say the only team that would give them a run would be Essex. Rappahannock out of Region A is undefeated and have been quoted saying theyre looking towards Altavista seeing as theyve beaten Essex and very confident in doing it again in a few weeks. Essex is still good and while they return most of their players from last years team they dont seem to have the same "It" factor. They dont seem as hungry and focused as a group, i think theyve gotten complacent. As far as a name to know is #2 for Rappahannock who should be in the running with Stone for Altavista as the best running back in the state. I think he has 1600 yds and 30 tds at this point. We shall see who makes it out of Region A in a few weeks to face Altavista

Everyone playing for 2nd

I don't see anybody coming close to beating LCA this year . Better QB then last year with a stronger arm and even bigger Oline Avg 250 or more with the Best RB in state. I just don't see it.
Agreed. They will not see a close game the rest of the way. Some good coaches are looking to leave 3a because of it. They are essentially the John Marshall of football.

Buffalo Gap JVs Pull Away From Riverheads in Championship Game

For the second time this season, the Bison hit the Big Red with a heavy dose of running back Zane Emurian, as he ran wild tonight to lead the home team to a 54-22 win and the Shenandoah District JV championship. He was able to constantly get to the corner, usually the right corner in front of his delighted home fans, and the Gladiators just never found the key to stopping him. My guess is that he scored at least five touchdowns tonight and even added a conversion or two.

The score might actually be somewhat deceiving because the Big Red did stick with the Bison for the first half as they had some impressive runs of their own. In fact, with just under a minute left in the first half, Joel Maybush executed a beautiful broken-field run in which he escaped from a shoestring tackle around the Bison 20, kept his balance and rolled into the end zone to complete about a 50 yard TD. The Gladiators then added the two-point PAT and at that point, it looked like they were right back in the game at 26-22.

But in those remaining few seconds, # 3 broke away for another of his explosive runs and the Gap took a 32-22 lead into the locker room. They were then able to wear down the Big Red in the second half and pull away to the more impressive sounding score.

They scored twice in the third quarter, one helped along by an RHS fumble, and for the icing on the cake, another Gladiator bobble late in the fourth was returned on a scoop and score for the final TD of the game.

As the top two JV teams in the district this season, each team has given their fans reason to be optimistic in the coming years. If Emurian turns out to be as good as he appeared in the two games against RHS, he could be one of the best Bison backs in school history.

On the Riverheads side, Rylan Payne was their most consistent scorer this year and he also scored tonight on a nice 35 yard run right up the gut. That came in the second quarter and cut the lead at that point to 20-14. Back in the first quarter, Maybush had scored from about 8 yards out, but the Gladiators sliced the PAT kick slightly to the left and lost the chance to take a 7-6 lead.

So even though tonight did not lead to the desired result for the Big Red, those two running backs will join an already full stable next year, when most of the current backs on the varsity team will also return. So the point is that both these programs are on solid ground and we will be hearing from these younger guys quite a bit, possibly as early as next season.

But for now, let's see what happens Friday night for the two varsity teams. Riverheads will be hosting Stuarts Draft in a much-anticipated Region 2 B opener where everybody wants to see if the Cougars' 42-14 win over the Big Red earlier was a fluke, or a realistic sign of the difference between the two teams this year. The Bison will also host a game this Friday, as they are the number three seed in Region 1-B and will host Franklin, which will need to travel around 200 miles one way for that contest.

Best of luck to both and let's see if we can bring some regional and maybe even state titles back to Augusta County this season.

Playoff Format 25-26

@VolNation85, I generally like your idea; however, if you are going to utilize this method the VHSL needs to balance out the regions. Why should any given region be given a competitive advantage by having fewer teams thus fewer playoff games.

Example:

Region A 9 teams 5 teams with records of 5-5 or better. If you take four the maximum number of games would be 13. Very little travel.

Region C 10 teams, 5 teams with 5-5 records or better. Same as above. Very little travel.

Region D 15 teams, 10 teams with 5-5 records or better. If you take 8 then the maximum number of games is fifteen. A whole lot of travel.

Region B 17 teams, 12 teams with 5-5 records or better. Same as above with moderate to high amounts of travel.

Even with the VHSL constantly reconfiguring regions why does Region C go untouched? If they gave them the Northwestern District teams back next cycle and put Louisa with the teams in their own district I would be totally fine with your plan.

Dept of Education

It’s all a chance to return education from a federal property to a more state based property. Allow states and local districts o take charge again, without governmental red tape. I think it’ll be a plus. My hope is that education could return to more of a holistic approach where we care about the total student not just if they can pass a standardized test. There are bigger issues in doing this though, as you will have to ultimately, get more people signing up to work in education. This includes teachers and coaches.

You will never get more people into education until you start making the job attractive again with commiserate pay. People have their crotch goblins then pawn them off onto other people for most of the day and expect top-notch work at near-bottom pay levels. Region B Ratings and Playoff Matchups

Give me
Clarke by 21
Strasburg by 4
Draft by 7 (upset)
Buckingham by 8

Wild fact, Buckingham has lost just two home playoff games in school history (but one was last year unfortunately) They also have only won 2 road playoff games in school history to my knowledge (but one of those was in Clarke County in 2010). So here’s hoping for a home win and then a repeat road victory possibly 😉. Tough region overall!!
I think you're right. Won at Clarke in 2010 and won at Dan River in 2013. Lost to East Rockingham at home in 2019. Lost last year to Clarke at home.
