My Takeaways from Week 3

Don't pour out that cup on Powhatan yet... turnovers were costly for Powhatan but they rallied late to make a game of it. You take those turnovers out of the equation and yes they are a part of the game but pound for pound Powhatan would have been with Manchester every step of the way and probably beaten them. I know Coach Henderson will make sure they don't have another night like that again as that many turnovers is uncharacteristic of Powhatan football period.
I sometimes wish Powhatan were still in the Jefferson District for the sole purpose of Louisa actually getting a competitive game on the gridiron at least once in district play. That game would be a must-attend this season for Central VA football lovers. Oh well. Powhatan clearly is doing well since making the jump over to the Richmond district. Agreed that they looked better than the score indicated on Friday and will still be very dangerous to a lot of Class 4 teams come November.

WF - 25 Salem - 7

This is all you need to know about kilroy25.... Fleming never, not once....like didn't even look like...or come close to running a "60" Defense. 5 DL 2 LB 4 DB. Kilroy- You are an idiot.

, I don’t know if your mom dropped you on your head when you were a baby, but the adults are talking. Go back to your insane stuff. Not sure what I’ve ever done to you but how about you stay away from my posts and I’ll do the same for you!! Deal? Go back to talking about the JV and I won’t ask if a player is ok anymore!! Deal?? Idiot?? I’m not even going to fall to your level and respond to that. And if you didn’t see 6 guys on the line you need glasses!! Thanks for ruining a civil conversation about a football game.

WF - 25 Salem - 7

Expect Fleming to be good for quite some time as long as Leftwich is there. He's that good and Fleming is not far from being a perennial very deep playoff contender and by very deep, I mean possible game 15 good. They might already be there this year
Matoaca will have something to say about that. They ain't too bad either. Matoaca beat Fleming pretty bad last year and it appears both teams have improved. Could be must watch tv.

No one talks about Class 3

In C3 here in the Seminole outside of the juggernaut LCA, Heritage and Rustburg are looking really good so far. They both should prevail this week but Heritage has a little stiffer challenge in JF than Rustburg does with Brookville. My Bees aren't very good defensively and the Red Devils have too much offensive firepower for them right now.

My Personal Top Ten: *Week 4*

Outside of maybe Glen Allen, Varina won’t be challenged at all down the stretch. They just need extra points from Indian River. I think there’s a big drop off in 4B after Dinwiddie Huguenot & Varina it hasn’t been that way since realignment in 2013. Phoebus won’t be challenged at all 4A outside of them is very bad. GW is giving me more confidence with each passing week if they get that 1 seed I think they will flourish!! I don’t know much about 4C but it’s hard to pick anyone outside of Tusky even with that bad loss they took.

My Takeaways from Week 3

Other than the HSHS faithful, I don’t think any of us really gave the Springers much chance against the Maury Machine? But the way they have been totally dominated the last two weeks is a long way from what we are used to. It’s traditionally been the Springers that were doing the dominating.

And I can say nearly the same thing about Salem.

Galax starting out 0-3? Wow. Carroll County has been better in recent years, but if you had said pre season that Carroll County was going to not only beat, but nearly shut out Galax, I would have loaded up on that bet. And did you know, the seven points the Maroon Tide scored on Carroll are the only points they have scored so far this year?

Huguenot putting up 81 on Clover Hill caught my eye, but it was not surprising. Huguenot is powerful, and Clover Hill is pitiful.

How about TJ putting nearly as many on Amelia. 79

Poor Hidden Valley. In three games they have been outscored 204 to 0. And what are their next two games? Glenvar and Salem!

My hat’s off to the kicker and the team at Brentsville District. (I still think of them as Nokesville). I don’t care what the length of the kick was, for a high school kicker to make the kick, to win the game, with only seconds on the clock is awesome.

Manchester beating Powhatan surprised many. I had told Danny that I wasn’t sold on Powhatan. I was sipping the Koolade, but not drinking it. I didn’t dump the rest of my cup…, yet, but they have to get some convincing victories before I ask for a refill.

It sure doesn’t appear that PH-A has figured out their problems yet. Losing to Glen Allen is not a sin, but being shut out and giving up 31 points makes you raise your eyebrows.

How about Caroline going into games as a favorite, and also winning?

Colonial Heights convincingly beat a 2-0 Nottoway team that was a VA Preps HM at 13th.

I see Coach Hall of Manchester vintage got his first win as the HC at Prince George.

Bleeding Navy pointed out to me that Stafford, (C6), has very quietly gotten to 3-0 with a good margin of victory.

I think we are beginning to identify who the contenders are for this season. There are always teams that start out poorly, and then get red hot, as well as those that have the world by the horns, only to get gored. I’m looking forward to the first posting of the standings based on the VHSL points. If memory serves me right, that goes out after week 5?

So, what caught your eye? What made you say, “no way” this week?

I agree but this year started with an impressive offensive performance vs a team that myself and a lot of people in the class 4 forum think will be pretty good in Eastern View. I think EVs performance in the next several weeks will make people think what Huguenot did to them to be even more impressive.

Rankings really don’t matter but I think teams like Matoaca, TJ and even Glen Allen are too low. All 3 off to really impressive starts an all their defenses are playing almost lights out, especially TJs.
Would agree with most of what you said. I will say, Eastern View was giving Huguenot a game before they lost their two biggest receiving weapons. They just put 81 on a team that many will score at will on. I do think they have legit talent and speed but I do want to see them against someone of better quality like a Bird or Powhatan.

I think Matoaca, TJ and Glen Allen are lower ranked just based on who they have played thus far if I had to guess.

My Personal Top Ten: *Week 4*

Nice list guys. Huguenot is very talented and well balanced on offense. They have destroyed both of their opponents (one good and one bad) and look the part of a state contender. I may have them at #2 in Class 4. It all depends on how my Generals represent this weekend. Huguenot certainly has the athletes to match up with anyone.

@blackknight_pride your addition of Woodgrove is spot on. They deserve to be added to the list. Two nice wins. Sherando is playing well and according to @Scalvinscaliwag they could get better once they get a star player back from injury.

I am highly interested in a Jefferson Forest squad who has played a suspect schedule, but has won convincingly. Let's see how they maneuver a tough Seminole District. Region D is shaping up to be very interesting with the teams from the North (Sherando, Handley, Millbrook, James Wood) playing well. I may be totally wrong, but I am not sold on John Champe in C. They seem to struggle putting points on the board and have played three close games.

EV, King George, Courtland, Powhatan and Varina all took early hits, but are lurking around in B.

Doesn't look like Phoebus has anyone remotely willing or able to challenge them in Region A. Smithfield seems to be on the right path though. Warhill seems to have fallen off the wagon.

Shenandoah District Week Three......What Surprises Will Be in Store This Time?

Gap was not quite ready for Clarke.
Central's defense is really good, which the top Bull Run teams all seem to have(Strasburg, Clarke)
Rustburg is real.
Waynesboro?
Wilson put the rest of the district on notice.
Fort with the huge win, they stepped up, congratulations.

The district is still wide open in my opinion. Fort, Draft, Riverheads, Wilson could all somehow win it. Staunton and Gap could pull an upset or two. Waynesboro?
I do think the new Coach Bell over at Waynesboro has the program on the right track. Rebuilding a program takes time, but I think the Giants will be in much better shape in a few years if he sticks around. I hope so, the district is just more fun when Waynesboro is good.

The battle for the Bull Run between Strasburg/Clarke/Central will be awesome this year. Strasburg has BLOWN out their opponents so far.

Huguenot vs Bird and Huguenot vs Manchester will give us the answers. I'm not sold on Powhatan being a real challenge.

I'm definitely a Huguenot "hater" but I'll give credit where its due. They look pretty good early but I'm not sold on their defense yet and the offense is sort of relying on being athletic(they have a ton of athletes) at this point. But their guys seem to be locked in and buying into the program.

Even pains me to say but if they played this upcoming Friday I might have to pick them over Varina at this moment. @BoKnowsSports This is my dream playoff matchup for this year.
Powhatan could definitely send Varina or Huguenot home. They have supreme coaching and the athletes to do it this year. 4B won’t look like what we’re used to. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s no undefeated teams. I tell you what bro, our Route 5 guys will have a big one this week. I didn’t realize how good Forest Park is. Shoutout to Folsom for beefing up that schedule. Going to be a huge game.

If I had to pick today, I’d pick Huguenot without thinking twice over Varina. Varina has just as many dudes, just gotta get better playcalling and stop that two QB bull crap. Wyche is to Varina what Harry Dalton is to Dinwiddie. I don’t care what Phoebus has, Bull Richardson, Darius Wilson, Bray Hood, D1 Carter and Miles Anderson lead the BEST defense in C4 (Myles and Darius didn’t play against Indian River before we hear they gave up 37).
