Interesting big game tomorrow at Northumberland HS as Rappahannock (6-1-1) travel to NHS (5-3) in battle of top 2 teams in the NND.

JV starts at 5:30 pm with Varsity at 7. Tomorrow has a high of 62 with rain hopefully over during the morning.

Rapp is currently the top team in the Eastern half of Virginia. Galax (6-0, maybe 7-0) is top dog in West as usual.

some boys soccer results from last week - add more as they come in.

Rapp over 3A New Kent 4-1, Rapp over then 2nd place NND Lancaster 5-1, Rapp over W&L 7-0

KW over Essex 5-3. Essex lost to Northumberland 2-0 but won 1st game of season on Friday over Lancaster 3-1. NHS over ARGS 1-0 (f). KW over W&L 2-1.

West Point is rolling - 8-1 over Carver and 6-0 over Mathews. Middlesex doing quite well - won over Mathews 3-0 and W&L 4-2. Mathews having major down year for them. Have not heard Fridays results yet for Tidewater.

Rappahannock (7-1-1) won 1-0 over Northumberland last night in a fantastic battle.

Score remained 0-0 until 13 min left in the 1st half, when Rapp was able to get one in. Game went back and forth with no goals in the 2nd.

Northumberland shows they have arrived as the Indians out shot the Raiders and went toe to toe the entire 80 minutes with one of the top teams in the state the last few years. Last meeting between the two programs was an 8-0 win for Rapp last season (as it has been for years).

Great, well officiated, classy game played with very few fouls by either team. Next meeting should be just as good.

Games played last night-

Rapp over Essex 2-0

Northumberland over W&L 2-0 (5th shutout for NHS)

West Point over Middlesex by one goal (either 2-1 or 1-0)

King William beat Charles City like 8-0

Mathews over Carver like 7-0

Thoughts:
I was impressed by Essex. they are making great strides- for a team that started so poorly.
Rappahannock- not the Rappahannock of old, but still a very good team.
Northumberland- continues to impress.
Lancaster- strong start- hit by the injury bug. Had to finish the Rapphannock game down one player because no one else available to play. Essex game Lancaster had no subs. only enough to play. 4 starters hurt. hopefully they can get healthy for the remaining games.

My rankings after seeing everyone play:

Rappahannock
Northumberland
Essex
Lancaster
W&L

Lancaster vs W&L Friday night. should be a close contest.
