Every game matters. Would be nice if only 4 teams made it every year. Competition would be a lot better throughout the state.

Well, will there be controversy with a team that gets left out? Out here, the Suffolk schools make up a good portion of the top half of the SouthEastern District! They all opted out of this Spring season!!

To me that puts I. River at risk of getting left out of the Class 5 playoffs with only 1 possible loss. Region A is loaded & their competition could have the opportunity for more power points.
 
I should have included which teams are in Suffolk. These are Southeastern District teams and are usually in the top half of our quality teams.

Very sorry to see them off our schedule @ O. Smith!!! But their City Championship game sounds like a good idea!!!

Great Bridge canceled 2 games in the last week do to Covid-19 issues. Some sort of quarantine requirements which do not suggest any of the coaches or players have it. No makeup dates have been scheduled either!!!

Remember Cox only played 1 game in basketball and received a top seed in the Class 5, Region A basketball playoffs!!!
 
No surprise, 4B will be very tough & there definitely will be 2-3 very good teams left out. Compared to 4A, not so much.

Dinwiddie was my favorite to win Class 4 this year, they could very well be left out. They’ll have to beat Hopewell and Dale. Powhatan is very good and may be left out. Still has Monacan, Manchester and Clover Hill.
 
In 4B if you lose 2 forget about it. If you lose 1 you maybe ok but you will likely need some help and won't control your own destiny. Same thing might be true for 5B as well.

Remember, those games missed due to Covid-19 do NOT count as loss or forfeit. The only penalty is the loss of bonus points.

Cox was #1 Seed in the 5A Basketball playoffs with only 1 Game played!!! So, we could see an average team beat out an undefeated team!!

It's up to each region to regulate their tournament. But I'm not sure if it's too late to look closer at the tiebreaking rules?

Monacan and Powhatan are in strong position because they play all D5 and D6 schools.Patrick Henry may sneak in if they go unbeaten as they play 2 D5 games. EV King George or Courtland round robin winner likely to get a spot. It will be tough for Dinwiddie and Louisa even if Louisa goes undefeated because of schedule strength.

Sorry if this has been covered already, but can anyone clarify the plan for the State Semi’s. VHSL’s website has contradicting info on it. It states very clearly that the team with the highest rating by power point will host the state semifinal game (A & B) (D & C). However when you click on the 2021 playoff bracket it says A hosts B and D hosts C regardless of points. In this scenario, the home field could possibly be flipped. Just looking for a little clarity if anyone truly knows.

I'm not too sure about that. Amherst, Glass and JF could all change. Salem, Pulaski Co should be in and G.W. should win the rest of their games.

I got Magna Vista beating GW, sadly. My boys will probably miss the playoffs this year. Beating Halifax twice would help out a lot.

Magna Vista could possibly give Botty a run for their money with Tyler Johnson (ODU offer and more power 5s coming) and MV has a lot of size, team speed and athletes on defense. MV beat GW handily last year.. GW lost a lot and MV has most of their starters back. I expect MV to be the only Piedmont District team in the playoffs this year.

As much as I hate to say it, it’s true. GW doesn’t have it mentally this year. Too many not focused and not buying into the program. It starts with the parents. I’ve been thrown off this site and I’m hated for defending the Danville boys every year. I’ll happily eat crow if GW has this massive turn around, I’m just not that convinced. If GW couldn’t stop Botty’s skill guys, they will struggle with Magna Vista. Tyler Johnson is significantly better than any of Botty’s skill guys. Unlike most Danville fans, I’m not writing off that Botty loss as if we were so much overmatched and unprepared with the athletes and potential in place in Danville. I’m also not drinking the Kool Aid just because we beat Patrick County. I believe in Nick Anderson, I just hope our players decide to listen to him and show up for a challenge.

So it looks like VHSL has made a final decision on the playoffs for all classes.
Semi’s - Region A winner hosts Region B winner and Region D winner hosts Region C winner
Finals - A/B winner hosts C/D winner
Power points are moot after the Regional finals are complete

Is Johnson better than Kyle Arnholt? Haven't seen him play, I just now how good Arnholt is and he has a scholarship to App State. They also have a talented pass catcher at TE in JMU commit Zach Horton. Shoot, Northside split him out at WR a ton last year and he a huge receiving year in that capacity.

Yeah, Kyle Arnholt is a DOG, but I’m taking Tyler Johnson. Punt return, kick return, WR, RB, a little wildcat.. Johnson is a big time player and is probably the best prospect since Malik Clements in our area. I have no doubt that if official camps would’ve been a thing this past summer and he could’ve went on visits, Johnson would have a lot of offers. ODU jumped on and offered early and I’m hearing Liberty, UVA and Duke could be next in line. He’s the real deal!
 
@Shabutie but to be fair, Arnholt doesn’t get the ball as much as Johnson does as Botty has weapons all around. If you put Arnholt in a MV uniform, his touches and roles increase. Also, Johnson and Arnholt are two totally different players (MJ/LeBron comparison here).. I do believe Johnson runs around a 4.45 40, not sure how fast Arnholt is but he’s a special player. None the less, GW will have their hands full when they visit The Hole in a few weeks.

LBHS has one of the best OL I’ve seen in years
Several college Scholarship players on that team
And a D1 RB I think LBHS play’s Byrd this week
Which beat MV so this week will tell you a lot
I would be surprised if LBHS doesn’t win the State this year they are a very experienced team this year

GW won’t have anymore games where they only score 6 points, they will score on MV.. But can we stop Johnson? Over the past two years we’ve been gashed (career games) by the opponents’ best player.

Nope, they won’t beat Botty. It’s actually pretty disappointing that MV lost to Byrd with the guys that MV brought back. Johnson is a JR so we’ll have to play him in a few weeks and in the fall.
