Coming into the final week of the regular season, five local teams have secured postseason berths: Hylton, Forest Park, Battlefield, Woodbridge and John Paul. Brentsvile, Freedom, Patriot and Potomac remain on the bubble.

6A SOUTH

The top eight teams from each bracket qualify for the playoffs.

For the Conference 3 and 4 bracket, Hylton (7-2 and seeded No. 2 in this week’s VHSL point ratings) will remain among the top four seeds and host a first-round game regardless of Friday’s outcome against host Forest Park. The Bulldogs are in the playoffs for the sixth straight year.

Forest Park (6-3), seeded No. 5 and in the playoffs for the third straight season after having never reached the postseason in the first 13 years of the school, could host a first-round game with a win over Hylton.

After a one-year hiatus, Woodbridge (5-4) returns to the postseason. The Vikings, seeded No. 6 this week, will more than likely travel regardless of Friday’s outcome against Gar-Field (0-9).

Freedom (3-6), which is seeded No. 10, can return to the playoffs for the third straight year with a win over Colonial Forge and secure the No. 8 seed.

6A NORTH

Battlefield (7-2) extends its county-best playoff streak to nine seasons whether it wins or loses Friday against Patriot. A win secures the Bobcats a first-round home game. Battlefield is seeded No. 7 in this week’s VHSL point ratings, but could jump up to the No. 6 spot with a victory. A loss to Patriot more than likely means a first-round playoff game on the road.

Patriot (4-5), which has qualified for the playoffs the last two seasons, must beat Battlefield to keep its season alive. The top 16 teams advance to the postseason and Patriot is currently seeded No. 18. A win over Battlefield could propel the Pioneers as high as No. 15 if other outcomes pan out.

5A NORTH

Potomac (3-6) has a shot at one of the 16 postseason berths and earn its fourth straight playoff bid, but needs help, starting with a win Friday over Stafford (1-8). The Panthers are 17th in this week’s ratings.
