I saw this game and the score could very easily have been a lot worse, maybe more like 42-7. The SC defense was outstanding and gave LB fits all afternoon. The SC defense had something like 10 sacks and quite a few TFLs as well. SC stacked the box and had 4 and even 5 rushing on almost every play, and the LB line could do almost nothing to stop them. When LB QB Edwards did manage to buy some time the downfield coverage gave him very little to target. If not for several SC turnovers, and two excellent goal line stands by the LB defense after SC had 1st and goal at the ten (held SC to a FG) and first and goal at the six (held SC on downs at the two), it would have been out of hand even earlier than it was.
You may also see comments on other sources about the officiating, two Intentional Groundings and one PI. The first IG occurred when SC's Dayne was taking direct snaps after an SC 1st and goal and rolled to his right. He was holding off a defender with his left arm and just before being pulled to the ground he threw the ball about 7-8 yards across the LOS into an open area with no receiver around. The white hat consulted with the official who threw the flag then waved it off, but I have no idea why. It was an obvious attempt to avoid a sack and there was no receiver within 10 yards and no player at all within 5-7 yards. I was sitting on the LB side and they approved, of course. Later, with LB pinned fairly deep and under pressure as usual, Edwards threw the ball into the ground at the feet of his lineman, but Murray, the LB RB, was also there. The white hat throws the flag and calls IG immediately. These two plays, IMO, were exactly the opposite of what should have been called. The other contentious call was a PI on the LB DB when he made a great breakup by reaching in front of the SC receiver to knock the ball away. It was a great play and something you see all the time at the next level, except that he had his left hand on the back of the receiver. Defensive PI all the way. This was also the play where LB's coach stormed onto the field in protest and got flagged for an Unsporstmanlike.
