I had predicted that Lee would go unbeaten in the district. What a game for Vaughan to be suspended.

If he could behave himself,he could have played, kids now days watch to much T.V.,he needs to learn a lesson, coach should set him down another game or two, season is young he could learn a lot watching.

Lee is going to need Vaughan if they expect to do any damage post-season.

One T was for hanging on the rim. The other I'm not sure about. I don't think that qualifies as behavior problems....maybe emotion? I think every kid who competes and wants to win will slip up with emotion. Honestly the suspended for one game thing is not even something that should be in place. Unless the Technicals involved flagrant fouls, being very abusive towards a ref or something in that area. Hanging on the rim should be a personal foul or something else. So...he basically got one Tech. I don't count the rim thing as bad behavior. Just my opinion. Rules are rules and he'll have to adjust from this point forward.

Also...I don't want to discredit East Rock. They rallied and won a hard fought game against a very good Lee team. Tuesday should be interesting.

I'm pretty sure you will see a drastic difference on Tuesday - Lee will roll in this one - provided they are at full strength.

I just read where he got one against Page County last week as well. So...that does make it a little more of a problem area for him. I stand by my previous post but...he will need to control those emotions going forward if he wants to get Lee to Richmond this season. Hopefully the suspension for a game will help calm his reactions to certain things. This also falls on the coaching staff to get this fixed going forward...which again I have faith they will. I have a feeling he will be fine moving forward.

It sounds like Lee could've won it if they had hit some free throws....

ELKTON – East Rockingham outscored Robert E. Lee 13-6 in the fourth quarter to erase a seven-point deficit and force overtime and the Eagles went on to defeat the Leemen 59-55 in Valley District boys basketball action Saturday evening.

Lee was playing without standout big man Jarvis Vaughan who was forced to sit out the contest after receiving a pair of technical fouls and an ejection during Friday’s game against Stuarts Draft.

Without Vaughan, the Leemen relied on their defense to control play for the first three quarters.

Lee led by seven, 26-19, at the half and then scored the first five points of the second half to lead by double figures. Jahleel Pettiford hit a 3-pointer and Jalen Henderson added a pair of foul shots for a 31 -19 lead.

The lead was still 12 points when Jayden Williams scored on a layup. Then, the Eagles ran off seven straight points to get back into contention. Tyce McNair hit a 3-pointer and Isaac Kisling and Austin Beaghan added buckets to trim Lee’s lead to five, 38-33. Lee’s Dontell Kelly and Beaghan traded hoops before two foul shots by Darrion Simms sent Lee to the fourth quarter with a 42-35 lead.

The Eagles scored the first four points of the final quarter before Lee’s Williams split two defenders to make a layup in traffic to give the Leemen a 44-39 lead. That turned out to be Lee’s only field goal of the second half, and the Eagles scored the next seven points to take their first lead of the game.

Dalton Jefferson knocked down a 3-pointer to pull the Eagles to within a bucket, and two foul shots by McNair tied the score with 2:23 left in the game. The teams traded empty possessions before two foul shots by Jefferson put the Eagles ahead 46-44 with 57.9 seconds remaining.

Lee pulled even when Williams made two foul shots, but a 15-footer by Griffin Morris with just 10 seconds remaining gave the Eagles a 48-46 advantage.

The Leemen still had a chance when Williams was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with 3.3 seconds remaining. The Lee senior made the first two, but his third shot hit the back iron as the teams headed to overtime tied at 48-48.

East Rock scored the first five points of the extra session, forcing Lee to play catch-up.

Two quick buckets by Everrett Castle pulled the Leemen to within a single point, but Kisling drained a clutch 3-pointer to put East Rock’s lead back to four, 56-52 with 1:20 left in overtime.

After the Eagles’ Morris hit 1-of-2 at the foul line to put the home team up by five, Pettiford drained a 23-footer to make it a two-point game, 57-55, with 25.9 seconds left.

The Leemen forced a turnover and Williams was fouled, giving the Lee senior a one-and-one opportunity. The first shot, however, caught the front of the rim and the Eagles controlled the rebound. Lee was forced to foul and Jefferson made both foul shots to seal the 59-55 victory for the Eagles.

Williams led the Leemen with 12 points and Henderson added 11. East Rock’s Jefferson led all scorers with 20 points.

Lee’s junior varsity salvaged a win to start the night, defeating the Eagles 80-57.
