Coach Ed Bulheller advanced to the Sweet 16 with wins over Coach Gerald Glasco(75% of the vote) and Coach Stu Brown with 60% of the vote.
Meanwhile Coach Loren Johnson defeated Coach Jerry Carter with 80% of the vote followed by topping Coach John Trott with 77% of the vote.
Coach Bullheller took his alma mater to heights never seen before and turned the Blue Devil program into a region and state title contender. In his first season on the job Bullheller and the Blue Devils won the Class 5 Central Region and would do so again in 1995, 1997-1998 albeit in Class 6. 4 region titles and a State Final berth in 1998 falling to CD Hylton at Norfolk State. 9 seasons on the job Bulheller had 7 winning seasons, made the playoff 5 times with a mark of 9-5! When Bulheller left the program following the 1998 season he did so with a mark of 74-30.
Loren Johnson is still writing his story but it is quite the story thus far. 4 state titles, 1 of only 3 coaches to do so in the state and the first in the Richmond Region to do so. He took a Springers program that was always a contender and turned them into the team to beat and a team coaches model their programs after. 12 seasons on the job Coach Johnson has never had a losing season, has made the playoffs 9 times and is an astounding 22-5 in said playoffs. 125-22 record at Highland Springs and he is not done yet.
