According to my sources Highland Springs is laying the wood to Thomas Dale. Dale is struggling to pass and run the ball on offense and cannot stop the inside running game of the Springers. The score was 17-0 at the half. One of Dales quarterbacks, Jimmy Hayden is a very elusive scrambler, but has taken several nasty hits. Will provide updates as I receive them.

Just in, another HSHS score 24-0.

HS totally dominated Dale on every aspect of the game. Dale never got across the 50 yd. line. I know in the 1st half they only had 1 1st down. Maybe 2 or 3 in the 2nd half.
HS's defensive line was lights out!. Batted down passes, sacks, meetings at the line of scrimmage! HS's offense could have been just as dominant had there not been a few over thrown passes. With that said, HS's offensive line was just as dominant!
Oh a side note: HS's JV won 56-0. (8 td's - 0)! Total domination.
Last week, HS's JV beat N. Stafford 7 td's - 0! Look out! The future is looking bright!

Stopping in at a nearby Golden Corral (I shouldn't give them a shameless plug like this unless they are sponsoring the site / offering me a discount right?) to chime in as I took in the scrimmage this morning also...

I had the final of 26-0. Starters went the whole first half... both coaches gathered near midfield at half-time and decided to go with the 2's (backups) for the 3rd period and then mix of starters and subs for the 4th period. Defenses dominated it early, then the Highland Springs offense settled with their depth of RB's and WR's + D'Vonte Waller spraying the ball around effectively at QB. Dale's starting QB suffered a foot injury early and their offense never seemed to get in sync - a big reason has to be attributed to the Highland Springs defense, which flew to the ball. Great speed and physicality.

I think Dale will be just fine in Class 6, have to clean up some things on the o-line and get the QB spot settled... RB Chris Tyree along with newcomer Jasiah Williams will make plays for them. Dale's defense held its own early, but Highland Springs capitalized on some short fields and make some plays in the run game and pass.

Tell you what - I didn't see the HSHS/North Stafford scrimmage, but if NS scored more than once on that defense, major kudos to them. That HSHS defense looks to be as dominant as any in the state, regardless of classification. There are playmakers at all 3 levels, and Coach Johnson is ecstatic to have Tremayne Talbert back healthy to make an impact in the secondary along with the return game.

We'll have tons of photos up later as well as interviews with Highland Springs Head Coach Loren Johnson + LB's Christian White and Jason Jones as well as Thomas Dale Head Coach Kevin Tucker and 2020 RB Chris Tyree - so be sure to check that out!

Going to check out another scrimmage this evening back in my Tidewater neck of the woods - likely either Oscar Smith/Phoebus or Lake Taylor/Woodside. Might do a coin flip to decide.

1st score was a field goal. 3-0. Then 2 TD's + xt pts = 17-0 halftime.
2nd team and backups were in for the 2nd half. HS score 1 td + xtra pt. Final score on the scoreboard was 24-0. Can't wait to see the pics Matt!! Thanks!

Darn Matt, I didn't know you were making the long trip up. Springer and I were sitting in the shade on the HSHS side.

One difference today was that this was TD's first scrimmage, and HS second. I think that made a difference in the "mistakes" department. But, clearly, HS was the better team today. I told Navy that I honestly believe if it had been a real game, the score would have been worse for TD. I think HS throttled back to vanilla play calling by half time. Just trying to use as many plays as they could that needed to be worked on.

If it wasn't for nifty scrambling by the TD QB, I'm not sure they would have had but one 1st down all day. HS was that dominating. I'm not sure what took place after a few minutes into the 4th, because I had to get back to work, so TD could have moved the ball better after that. Some of have real jobs, you know?

Springer76, good seeing you again. I'll see you at Henrico Thursday evening.

The biggest difference in today and last week's scrimmage with N. Stafford was the Springer's defense.

Last week they were porous! Today they filled holes quickly with runs and limited Dale's ability to throw the ball. This defense was much better than last week.
The thing I like about the way HS has set up their preseason scrimmages is, they are now out or the way and they have 2 full weeks to work on the problem areas they have seen to prepare for the "real time" meeting with Hermitage! I haven't seen Hermitage yet, but I believe they will have their hands full in 2 weeks!! Go Springers!!
In the meantime, I will get another chance to get a look at Henrico, Bird and possibly a little peek at Hermitage! I'll most likely see you again DP!

You make a good point about it being TD's first scrimmage and Highland Springs' 2nd. Coach Tucker talked about that in the postgame interview we did. I'll post links to those we did here in a bit...

Wish I knew you guys were there, would've definitely stopped by and chatted.

Good job Matt. Good interviews. You coaxed some meaningful answers out of those guys. That's sometimes hard to do.
