If not for Altavista having the interception last week and only having to go 2 yards, Essex wouldn't have allowed any points in the playoffs. That defense was lights out

Congrats Essex, as a Region C guy, I was rooting for Grayson. I set on the Essex side and had a blast talking to about 10 of your fans. Class act bunch. Class act program. Class act coach. Man, I know you guys love Jones, but I had no idea you loved him that much. Heck of a program down East you have that was the best in VA.

Essex fans. Don't hate me. It's obvious your coach is class as is your program, but for the love of God brothers, open up that O and turn lose your athletes and stop it with that phone booth offense. Next year against a likely Riverheads you have far better athletes. The only chance the Red team will have is you running inside the tackles. Get your athletes in space and force them to cover in space.

Heck of a show Essex. What I saw today and spoke with and witnessed was all class. State Champs and well deserved. Congrats to Coach Jones who had a much better day than the horrific event from this time last year. Somebody's uncle is smiling from up above and he's smiling on a damn good coach, a damn good nephew and a damn good man.

Fight on Trojans!

Thanks for the kind words about Essex. As an alum & fan of Essex football, I agree with you about adding a passing game. I’m hoping during the off season Essex can develop that. Still going to have plenty of fuel still in the tank for next year. Looking to make another run next year. People already taking about that Rappahannock vs Essex game in 2025.

Jones ran the spread offense for years. Even, as recently as 2 years ago. I think he's been playing to the strength of his team the last 2 years, as I don't know if they have a true qb on the team, not to mention Holmes and Stewart are true RB types, and if you put Holmes at WR, then you're limiting his touches and relying on a QB to get him the ball. All these years they've ran the spread against Riverheads and didn't have much success. It definitely wouldn't hurt them to throw in a pass like they did last week when the opponent least expected it, but honestly I wouldn't change much other than that going into next year, unless they all of a sudden get a QB that can absolutely sling it. Even then, you'd be taking the ball out of the hands of some of your best players. Holmes, Stewart, Bundy, etc. And yes, they love some Coach Jones. I saw on Facebook last week that they were even selling t shirts with Coach Jones' face on it.

Whats crazy is Jones has basically tailored his offense around the personnel of his teams and has still made the state semi and two state appearances with 3 different kids at qb each year which is not heard of on any level. All being 1st year starters in those years, two were baseball players who came out their senior years to play. They have a few more athletes coming up and if they can find a viable option at qb they could be even deadlier next year.

Essex doesn't have to throw it anymore then they do now. All I'm saying is....get the football outside the tackle box more. Notice the Grayson game as Grsyson did well against the run inside the tackles, then Essex does the occasional run outside/around the end and it looks like half the football field is wide open. It's because a team like Grayson didn't have the athletes to contain the edge/in space.....and neither did Galax. The absolute only chance Galax or Grayson had was to hope Essex would run between the tackles.

Essex doesn't need a QB who can pass. Just find a kid who can throw the ball 7 yards/21 feet. Take the simple snap and ball thrown/immediately released...a simple hitch to the slot or WR at the line of scrimmage to one of the athletes and let the athlete do his thing. It's the same as a run, but it's like a run that starts in space/outside of the tackle box and exposes the opponents lack of athleticism.

Just enough passing to get a defender out of the box would have beaten Galax.

Agreed, my point is if they do find a legit qb it could be even scarier with the athletes they currently have or coming up, i agree they should attack the edges more. Its what most Essex fans were saying all year about getting the ball in space, I see he ran some spread formations at times but didnt really pass out of them
