Mixed news was circling around that they were hiring a Mountain View assistant and I even heard that they got somebody from Fairfax. They’ve made it official today announcing that former Petersburg, Buckingham, and Fluvanna head coach Josh Wallace is their guy. All I can say is wow…..

It looked like where he coached last year they were 1-9. Justice high school in northern VA never heard of them . I don’t understand how administration couldn’t convince one of those assistant coaches from the last 7 years to stick around and be the new head coach. Easy fix. That is very telling but good luck to Coach Wallace!

Gotcha! I know his tenure at Buckingham didn’t go as planned. From what I know about Coach Wallace is he’s an old school guy. Was Dan Newell’s DC at GW Danville and their defense was ferocious and one of the best in the state. Worked some tough jobs but KG will be his most challenging by far. That’s were my “wow” came from. Lunsford and his guys handled those kids with a lot of care. Wallace will be wayyyy more rough around the edges.

I know it’s been a while and people change, but y’all weren’t a fan. I only bring that up cause KG parents seem to be very very tough.
I think for the Wallace and Buckingham situation it was just a bad fit at the wrong time type of thing. Gotta remember Buckingham was coming off their 20 year legend Craig Gill retiring in May and passing away in July. When Wallace came on, I think one guy stayed on staff from the previous regime that had been together 3-4 years without a single change and had had success with 7 straight playoff appearances and never winning less than 8 games in a season. Both those scenarios would make for a rough situation. Now for the Fluvanna job??? I wish we had a Fluvanna poster who could offer insight as to why he left before coaching a game

I think the same exact situation is happening at KG. The talent is gone (top 4 returning players are transferring) and they just lost every member of the one of best staffs in the state. It’s going to be ugly (think of Charles City or Cumberland bad). Somebody had to take the job but Wallace’s style will rub the participation trophy culture of that county wrong. In all, Wallace is well respected and knows the recipe on how to win. Hope it works out for him, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.
