Dogs and Leemen at the Rock the Ribbon

BOYS BASKETBALL: Martinsville 47, Robert E. Lee 42. The Bulldogs defeat the defending VHSL Group 2 state runners-up behind 17 points from Troy Brandon and 14 from Nigal Davis.

I'm shocked Lee (9-7) was able to keep it under a 15-25 point blowout. Lee at best is a top 25 team in 2A this season. East Rockingham crushed Lee both games, so I would have to say Radford is the undisputed #1, and East Rockingham at 2. Martinsville 3.

Martinsville is a threat to win the 2A title. East Rock is clearly a threat as they have to be the real deal. One thing about the Dogs though, they great defense. Lee scored only 42 which is their lowest point total for the season and playing great D keeps you in games. I think Lee scored 43 in one of the blowouts against East Rock and I'm assuming ER called the dogs off early and that Lee would have likely scored much fewer, if ER would have kept the pedal to the medal. ER is solid and Martinsville is still a threat. I've watched this picture to many times over the years with Martinsville when they enter the playoffs. I do think the state title is Radfords to lose, but we can certainly lose.

GC, Graham, Dan River, Brunswick, and Greensville County are all good, but they don't appear to have as much as ER, Martinsville, and Radford. I think GC certainly did and was in the category of these three teams mentioned above prior to Ervins knee injury. GC wouldn't have been the favorite, but they would certainly have been in the discussion with Radford, ER, and Martinsville

Martinsville is not that good. Lee should have beat them, still haven't figured out how the Dogs won. Probably will be one and done in the regionals. Mavahi's 7th game in 12 days with 6 on the road, holding on by a thread. Hope we dont see East Rock, was told by some Floyd people today that they were better than Radford, very high praise indeed!!

Looked at their roster. Great height for a Class 2 school! Martinsville's best win of the had to be giving GW-Danville their lone defeat of the season 46-44 in Danville!

That win over G.W. Danville came on the road, after beating a tough Halifax Co. team on the road the night before.
