Matoaca vs. James River

Top 1

Matoaca got a single from Philip Van Keuren, but Jack Roberts struck out two, and Michael Trentham erased the Warrior baserunner with a perfect throw on an attempted stolen base.

Heading to bottom 2nd...

Nothing doing for the Rapids in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, Kyle Vaas stroked a deep leadoff double, and Alex Smith brought him home with a one-out single. Matoaca 1, James River 0, heading to the bottom of the second.
 
Top 3rd

Bryan Andrews got on with an infield single, and A. J. Moore followed with a bunt single, giving Matoaca two baserunners with none out. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. A flyout preceded a HBP, loading the bases. An RBI groundout by Kyle Vaas scored Andrews to make it 2-0. Roberts struck out Birdsong to end the threat with two men still in scoring position, but the Warriors lead 2-0 going to the bottom of the 3rd.
 
Rapids fight back

An RBI triple by Cullen Large scored Nick Guyer, but the Rapids couldn't bring Large home. Still, JR cuts the lead in half. Matoaca 2, James River 1, top 4th.
 
Fourth inning

Nothing doing for Matoaca in the top of the fourth, although they did get a runner into scoring position with one out. He remained on second as Roberts got a groundout and flyout.

For James River, a single by Mac Caples and a double by Roberts gave the Rapids men on second and third with none out. Michael Trentham's sac fly scored Caples. A Nathan Kirby double scored courtesy runner Christian Redman to give the Rapids a 3-2 lead. That ended Spiers' day. Lucas Meredith came in and ended the Rapid rally.

Top 5th

A couple of walks by new pitcher Tyler Carrico gave Matoaca two on with one out, and Michael Birdsong delivered an RBI single to tie things at 3. Going to bottom of the 5th now, James River coming up.
 
Top 6th

A hit batter, a walk, another walk, an infield single by Michael Trentham, and a third walk gave the Rapids two runs, pushing them to a 5-3 lead going to the sixth. Craig Johnson relieved A. J. Moore for Matoaca during the inning.
 
Big inning for James River

The Rapids got two-out, two-run singles from both Jack Roberts and Michael Trentham to push their lead to 9-3. Matoaca making another pitching change. Daniel Delozier now in for the Warriors.
 
Rapids win

James River tops Matoaca 9-5. The Warriors got runs in the seventh on a fielder's choice off the bat of Michael Birdsong and a wild pitch. Highlights up very soon!
