Parry McCluer's Fischer Invited to 17th Annual Southern Classic T&F Meet

Parry McCluer Senior Thrower Joshua Fischer has been invited to compete in the 17th Annual Southern Classic Track & Field Meet next Friday, May 11th in Richmond at Sports Backers Stadium.

Fischer will compete in both the Men's Shot-Put and Discus. The PM Senior Thrower is ranked 4th in the Shot and 11th in the Discus headed into the competition. The Southern Classic Event hosts only the top 15 ranked competitors up and down the east coast and is by invitation only.

Last year, both Parry McCluer Throwers KJ Cook (then a Sr. now at William & Mary) and Fischer (then a Jr.) were both invited to attend the meet however, it was cancelled due to the torrential rains and foul weather leading up to the event.

Congratulations to Josh and best wishes to you next Friday.. We'll keep ya posted!!

And as always, GO BLUE!!!

Congratulations and good luck to him. What are his plans after high school?
Thanks for the kind words..
At this point he is still undecided but he has a short list of 3 or 4 that he is considering heavily.. Josh has had a few offers to continue his football career at the next level,(mostly DII and DIII) and he still has a few options in the wings as far as his throwing is concerned, depending on how he finishes up the outdoor season with Districts, Regions and States, not to mention the New Balance Nationals in June..
His biggest hurdle thus far is just deciding if he wants to play football or throw or try and do both.. WHICH IS GOING TO BE TOUGH!!

1) Emory & Henry = Football and Track & Field
2) Gardner-Webb =Scholarship Offer,Track & Field (Possibly Football)
3)Liberty University = Scholarship Offer,Track & Field (Possibly Football)
4) Alabama=Football as a Walk On Opportunity (Not Likely, Tuition is $47,000)

Been Super Busy and traveling for work so, long story short..
The 17th Annual Southern Classic was well, CLASSIC!!
For the most part it went as predicted according to rankings.. Fischer went into the Discus seeded #11 and finished one spot up at #10.. For the record, no thrower really excelled at this meet.. It was SUPER HOT and a SUPER HUMID!!

Blacksburg's Solomon Gosh was the winner in the Discus event however, he was still about 25 to 30 feet off his PR..

Washington & Lee Stud,Jabari Bennet won the Shot-Put event with a heave of just over 62'.. The kid is a BEAST!! Like 5'-10" and around 285 pounds and spins like a top...

Fischer was seeded #4 going in and dropped to 5th overall to Isaiah Allen from Sherando last chunk of the day out throwing Fischer by a few inches. All in all it was a great meet, a great experience and a great time.. It was awesome to see these guys compete head to head and how much they push each other..

The Fighting Blues and Fischer will travel (weather permitting) to Covington to determine the Pioneer District Champions on Saturday the 19th beginning at 10:00 am..
Best wishes to all,
AND AS ALWAYS, GO BLUE!!
