Congrats to Martinsville and Dan River
Congrats to Martinsville, they made the key plays to win the state title. Now the target goes from Dan River to the Bulldogs on a possible repeat. They had a tough team last year with mostly sophomores and now as juniors they won the title. They will be the preseason favorite.
So proud of my Wildcats on getting back to the finals - something some people didn't would happen after losing 5 players (Starters Terrell Edmunds, Ethan Driskill, center Tyleik Edmunds,backup center Gabe Long, & sixth man Reshaun Myers). Dan River fought hard this season after dropping their opener to Halifax by 20, as well as earlier losses to Martinsville and Radford. The Wildcats put together a great run and even after losing leading scorer Rodney Womble (soph.) to a dislocated ankle, they were able to win Conference, Region, and get to the state finals. Thank you to the 8 seniors for a great run this year. We're runner-ups this year but no one can take away the ring you got last season. We still got a ton of talent that may not have played much this year, plus we get sophomore Zemar Anderson back after missing this season.
I truly believe that DR and Martinsville could meet again in the finals next year (no disrespect to the 2A East teams) and that would be something.
