Poor va high

No District Tournament , the colonial district has C6 C5 C4 C3 and JM is the only C2 team. The teams are Deep run C6, Douglas Freeman C5, Glenn Allen C6, Hermitage C5, JR tucker C5, Mills Godwin C5, Thomas Jefferson C3 and Maggie Walker governor school.
So JM plays those Colonial schools in the other sports (football, baseball, volleyball, etc) as part of the district schedule?

If so, they should spread some of the Adidas support around the other teams!

Yes they play those schools in all sports as their core schedule. Of course the might not have lacrosse, field hockey, gymnastics and men's volleyball as some of those schools do and some of the other sports that are offered at the higher classification schools.

Couple of questions? Im a HS coach in NC and plan to come up for the Thursday games and maybe first two friday. After this thread i may be wasting my time lol. Does the arena sell out? Are there advance tickets? Thursday it will be around 130-200 when i arrive. I don't want to get shut out.
You’re wasting your time on Thursday!

I bet those big schools just love seeing a crappy 2A team on their football schedule…

To the coach from North Carolina. If you come up and you do watch the Class 2A title game, you may get to watch a guy you might have went against before a few years ago. His name is Latrell Almond. Came out of Southern Pines, North Carolina and used to play for The O'Neal School. No one has a clue how he ended up at John Marshall. As for a few other of their players currently and those that have already graduated.
Have a great trip though! You get to watch how the VHSL now lets anyone build super teams however they want to. Maybe you can bring the info back to North Carolina. They may want to do the same thing there!

As for score predictions, this is easy.

If John Marshall shows off then it will be John Marshall 78 Virginia High 25 at halftime.
John Marshall 134 Virginia High 48 Final

I'm sorry. Virginia High is full of young players. No recruits from out of state. No ESPN top 100 or 200 players. Just homegrown Bristolians. A bunch of Freshmen, Sophomores. It's a shame that NONE of these guys will ever sniff at a chance at winning a state championship. They are a very talented bunch. Never, never, never, never will be good enough to beat JM though. The Coyote has a way way way better chance of beatiing the Roadrunner than Virginia HIgh ever will of beating John Marshall. Now, or in the future.
I've heard VH head coach is a great man of faith. That's good. That's about all he will have left after this game on Thursday.

When you can put all of this together at a public high school, no one has a snowball's chance in Hades of doing anything except state runnerup.

Just like the Mission Statement for the VHSL says:

OUR MISSION

The VHSL is an alliance of Virginia’s public and approved non-boarding, non-public high schools that promotes education, leadership, sportsmanship, character and citizenship for students by establishing and maintaining high standards for school activities and competitions.

Well VHSL... there's your leadership, there's your character, there's your high standards in action!

Congratulations!

Just for information's sakes. Got this off a friend of mine in Wise County I thought it was very interesting.

https://phenomhoopreport.com/takeaways-from-tyler-lewis-hoop-fest-john-marshall-is-a-special-group/ Special group I'd say. Especially since 3 of them that we know of didn't even go to school there.... and two of them didn't even live in the state of Virginia. We can have a lot of special groups of teams around the state if we put together teams the way John Marshall or Team Loaded Public High School does.

Wheeler grew up in Atlanta before moving to Hampton. He later moved with his mother, Deborah Davis, from Hampton to Richmond’s North Side prior to last school year. He went directly from Hampton’s Lindsey Middle School to John Marshall High’s state championship varsity a year ago.
Last summer, Wheeler was a dominant force on Team Loaded AAU that posted a 40-0 record while claiming a national title.

All of that information is irrelevant but an interesting read. VHSL can’t tell JM they can’t accept student athletes that move into the district or maximize waivers from specialty schools. Small guy gets the short end of the stick, kind of how our society is as a whole. Early learning lesson for the kids! Play hard, enjoy VCU atmosphere.

Yes they do play a vhsl district schedule, they're in the colonial district which includes the city Richmond, Henrico, co and I believe Hanover co. Plus the private schools they play.
in fact the JM game is not only a sellout but the most anticipated game of the year for the district schools. They are a money maker. I will not be surprised if (in the future) some of those games are moved to the new Henrico Sports Center.

Send um green stamps... the hoes at vhsl.... can kma
you may find this hard to believe but JM don't want to play you any more than you want to play them. They would much rather play schools in tidewater/peninsula area. They play most of those schools in the fall and the games are much more enjoyable. They have asked the VHSL to play up to Class 3 every year and have been rejected by the executive committee.

Actually, I believe they were told all athletics have to compete in Class 3A if they moved up and JM declined. I personally think , the VHSL Executive Committee should make an exception let the boys & girls basketball move up but they’re probably more suited to 5A or 6A while other sports remain 2A.

Stop with that BS! If JM doesn’t want to play 2A teams, then opt out of the VHSL. If you stay in the VHSL, you know 2A is your classification. So they must want to play in the 2A playoffs; doesn’t look like they play 2A in any regular season games so why stay? Just to get an easy state title is the only answer🤷‍♂️

Those players are going to college with or without a particular coach. And Youngkin was a baller in his day. 😀

So you joined Virginia Preps today and this was your contribution?

As an actual Virginia High alum and lifelong Bearcat fan, I'm going to inject some positivity into this thread

Despite knowing how the game is likely to go this afternoon, that cannot take away just how proud I am of these players and coaches both for their accomplishments but also how they've conducted themselves all year.

Julius Gallishaw inherited a team that lost all 5 starters from last year's regional championship squad and managed to take us to heights we haven't seen in 64 years. More importantly he is a man of faith and excellent character and if he doesn't win Coach of the Year it will be a travesty.

Do I wish we were paired with an actual Class 2 school for the championship? Do I wish Bruton had a fair chance to join us in Richmond? Of course, but this is the hand we've been dealt and fair or not I know the guys are going to do their best against these overwhelming odds

Proud to be Bearcat today and always

EPJr is getting a cut from JM. Spreading the propaganda.
A real Hunger Games situation. Leading teams to the slaughter for the amusement of the elites.
I am glad to do that for free for all the Richmond city schools.

Welcher”s get cement shoes according to my bookie Tony “Scarface” Montana🤷‍♂️🙏

It’s tough. They have an unfair advantage because of their teams make up and the way they bring kids in. I have seen this type of thing before on other schools and other sports. It is more of an issue in basketball, especially at a lower division because 1 or 2 kids can make such a big difference

And now it will go on the back burner for most as we move into spring sports. But I am going to pester the powers that be as much as possible as often as possible. I suggest everyone else do the same. I hope the JM supporters do this as well since they “really” don’t want to play 2A…

There is no way the COY is correct; maybe recruiter of the year but not COY. Any poster on this forum could have won the state with that roster. As long as the bus started (or does Adidas fly them in?), they were going to win the postseason. Not much coaching needed there.

There have been MANY HS coaches disciplined for running up scores. This one is rewarded for do the same? Hmm…

I think the Luray coach; Madison coach, VHS coach, Bruton coach and Graham coaches did much better actual coaching. I guess they need to work on their recruiting!

I agree 100%. I actually had that in my post above but I have respect for Ty White. He’s one of the best, however, he’s proving nothing in C2 ball.

Ty White is a great coach but I could have coached that roster & won. Lots of other coaches were equally or more deserving for actual “coaching” aspects this season. It is what it is and I’m not sure what White is proving by continuing to play in C2. Truly, if they’re not going to play up or not allowed to play up, bow out of tournament, period. The players’ reactions to winning state championships were like “No big deal”. Winning a state championship should feel like a big deal & garner euphoric excitement for a high school kid and that wasn’t the vibe JM was giving.

I don’t know much about Richmond area other than what friends out there tell me and they are coaching different sports or administrators. Some in the city or adjoining counties. Also a friend, now retired, who was once on the executive committee, says executive committee worries about setting a precedent for schools to move up then back down when talent not the best. My question is this - What does the Richmond SBO or Superintendent have to say about all of this? Pros or cons from them. Maybe they insist that JM participate in VHSL playoffs. Just remember guys, the good Dr’s who are administrators just love recognition and trophies for their schools. 😂😂

To paraphrase a famous coach quote, “he could take your team and beat his team”. Bet that ain’t true with this year’s COY and the runner up team…

Hard to beat a “team” that is hand selected with no geographical boundaries.
