I love the sincerity and intensity that oozes from Coach Scott. He's excited and focused and you can tell it translates over to his players.

Enjoy:

He's right about the penalties. It likely cost them the game vs Highland Springs. But, they are learning to overcome adversity. At times the people in the stands feel like they have to beat their opponents twice to get a victory! Eliminate those mistakes NOW because late in the playoffs, a big penalty can shift the games momentum. It sure did against the Springers!

Smith looks good! Always hesitant to root for Coach Scott because of his history of playing fast & loose with recruitment, but it’s clear he can coach em up.

I disagree with that assessment of why they lost to HSHS because I feel it was a good defensive battle and it seemed like coach Johnson was trying to keep playbook very vanilla as not to tip off any 5a tidewater playoff contender coaches that were at the game. You can tell by the 23 designed quarterback keepers he ran and 20 plus fade routes he threw. When he wanted to drive down the field seriously he attack the middle of the field that was wide open the entire game. As for the penalties by OS if they didnt get those ton of holding penalties then you could say they may have been for losses or qb sacks. And if we are talking would've could've. We should've had 10 extra points from the dropped wide open TD right before halftime and the missed chip shot FG. Either way it was a good game and I am looking forward to next year.

Highland Springs won that game in the 2nd half! They dominated time of possession and literally kept the ball out of O Smith's offense's possession! 3rd Qtr., HS drove the length of the field on their opening possession and scored.. Run after run after run and ate up about 8 minutes of clock. Oscar Smith got the ball and went 3 and out. HS ran out the rest of the quarter and drove the length of the field and scored in the beginning of the 4th to take the lead 13-6. The rest of the game was a dog fight and HS's defense won it in the 4th quarter! Stopping Smith on a valiant try, on 4th down. HS ran out the clock with a little over 3 minutes left in the game.

Sorry to jump in, but are you saying they held back from throttling OS and decided to keep game close and not show their hand?

I hate to admit it,but he might be right! :-/ I can honestly say....the QB design runs have been far & few between, other than that game. When they DID attack the center, they did it with ease, especially on BOTH scoring drives. After the first quarter,OS really didn’t do squat against HSHS’s defense(34yds in the second half). The fact that the QB from HSHS bruised his hand in the first half kinda limited his passing too though. It WAS a very vanilla offense, and that “may” have been by design, but I gotta give “some” credit to the OS defense. They have impressive speed all over the field too. When you know your defense is as good as HSHS’s,you can play it “good enough to win” sometimes. One things for sure....HSHS won’t see anyone that fast the rest of this year, and that includes Varina!
