I don't know why this region's scores are so hard to find online!

Thanks for posting!

Final in Occoquan Region 6C Hoops Tournament Semifinals - West Potomac 57, Fairfax 55.

West Potomac scores on a put-back at the buzzer to secure a State Playoff berth.

They'll take on Hayfield for the Region 6C crown.

Really tough break for Alexandria City with their point guard injuring his hand in the district tournament...he actually played most of the game tonight but his role on offense was very limited. Still AC was up 43-39 late in the third before foul trouble took its toll.

Hayfield maybe got written off after graduating all five starters from last year and taking some early losses, but the teams from the P district still can't get past them. They still have the deepest team in the region.

IIRC West Potomac's only previous regional championship was in 1998. Don't think their predecessor schools (Groveton and Fort Hunt) ever won either.

BOYS

Occoquan Region 6C Hoops Championship at the HALF

West Potomac 33, Hayfield 27.

West Potomac led by as many as 9 in the first half.

West Potomac boys up on Hayfield 51-39 going into the fourth quarter...

When West Potomac didn't win the district tournament, we were rightly suspicious they may have a run at regionals in them...they did. Wolverines defeat Hayfield 68-55 for the Occoquan title.

West Potomac dominated in the paint all night. Their point guard, who had 25 points in both the quarters and semis, picked up his fourth foul two minutes into the second half, and Hayfield just couldn't take advantage.

Not sure of the exact number but Hayfield had won about 70 in a row against region opponents. West Po's two best players are sophomores, so it could be a changing of the guard.

They tinker with the region and state formats and sites every year but in NOVA there's still nothing like a big game in the Robinson gym.
