Judges rout Bookers, make tourney final

Star staff reports

NORFOLK — Handley’s balance was too much for Booker T. Washington’s one- man show as the unbeaten Judges advanced to the final of the Norfolk Scope Holiday Classic with a 65-48 triumph on Wednesday.

The Judges (8-0) will meet Maury at 6:45 p.m., today in the final. Maury beat Norview 70-67 on Wednesday.

Wednesday’s contest was tied at 15-15 through one quarter, but the Judges took control in the second period by outscoring the Bookers 20-12. Michael Brown had eight points and the Judges got 3-pointers from Keevon Martin,. Gus Wise and Tyson Long in the period.

Kevin Curry scored 12 of his team-high 17 points in the second half as the Judges extended their lead. Brown netted 15 points. Martin (9), Wise (8), D’Andre James (6) and Ra’Shaad Morris (6) added to the balanced scoring.

Levorn Smallwood most of the damage for the Bookers with 23 points.

Yes they can usually go 9 or 10 deep as long as the point guard Michael Brown doesn't get hurt or in foul trouble I think they got a chance to win it all this season. @hatfieldsports

Yea they had a kid from Skyline transfer over there, but haven't seen him in any box score so was just wondering

The skyline transfer IMHO has not been much of impact and seemed like he was really gassed when he played a lot vs. skyline.

Kobe Tigney, 6’3″ G, 2018. Virginia Academy Patriots HS.Ashburn, VA.

Grassroots Team: New World

Prep Hoops Virginia Recruiting Analyst wrote on July 19, 2017. “Kobe Tigney “has been under the radar for far too long, and he’s finally starting to see the college interest he deserves. The 6’4” lefty has seen a lot of recent interest from low major and division two schools, and with a big July he could see that interest turn into offers in no time. He’s long, athletic and can stroke it from deep, and at the next level he could be a solid three and d guy that could develop into a very good two way player with the right coaching. He’s also a very good student with a 3.7 GPA.” Kobe has transferred from Handley HS in Winchester, VA to the Virginia Academy where he will join forces with 1st year Head Coach Chris Rone. Coach Rone was very impressive on the sidelines when we saw him at the MD Team Games this summer. Kobe has the upside of a D1 recruit & he was offered by the US Naval Academy & D2 power Fairmont State this summer. We look forward to covering Kobe & the Virginia Academy this season.
