State Semi-Final Green Run vs. Maury

Recently, the Beach teams just hasn’t been able to get it done. Maury talks a lot on social media, but has backed it up for the most part. Their only lost came to New Bern who is 14-0 and playing in the state semi’s in North Carolina this Friday. New Bern had 625 yards RUSHING this past Friday. Maury lost to them 21-14, gave up 304 rushing yards and zero passing yards. I know Green Run likes to pass it and has the receivers to go up and get it. I like Maury in this one.
If Green Run cannot implement a power running game in a weeks time,this is a Maury game.
I see maury in a closer game than last year. But I think maurys defense will cool down that hot GR offense that everyone is rightfully so saying is great but it's hard for me to get a gage on a beach time since in most cases they don't play outta district to know really how good they are and when they do in the playoffs it's against lower tier teams from other districts. At least we can say with maury granted the ED isn't some SEC district but at least they held they're own and had chances to beat a top team from another state on the schedule. But overall I do see the maury secondary holding them GR WRs in check enough for the maury front to get home enough and make it a long day for the GR QB.
A lot of talk about both offenses. I've seen both and both have terrific offenses. Highland Springs and Stone Bridge have potent offenses too. HS's is probably more pass/run balanced than the rest. Maury is balanced too. Let's talk defense a bit! I think Maury's defense is quicker and could stymie GR's offense. Maury has given up 80 pts. in 10 games. (8.0 pts per game) Green Run has given up 108 pts. in 13 games (8.3 pts per game). Maury's defense is a tiny bit tighter than Green Run. Slight nod to Maury's defense! On the other side of the bracket, Stone Bridge has given up 172 pts. in 13 games (13.2 pts/game). Highland Springs has given up 57 pts. in 13 games. ( 4.3 pts/game).
They say defense wins games. HS has played the toughest schedule of the 4 and given up the fewest points.
Will Stone Bridge crack the Springer D? It's going to be tough! Stone Bridges Defense has been porous at best! GR and Maury are virtually tied defensively. Aside of my love for HS, my boys have a defense that nobody has solved, this defense is 2nd to none. HS offense is dynamic. If they can avoid mistakes, HS will win walking away!
Why has Maury only played 10 games? Everybody else has played 3 more. I know they had a bye in the playoffs...

As far as why maury had 8 games for the blogs teams didn't want to play them and other issues that were out of their control. But supposedly next year maury and springs 1st game of the year and I heard Dinwiddie also on schedule
Dinwiddie is a no. I haven't heard about Maury in game 1. I have heard a possible game in Miami, Fla. for the 1st game. Not sure about that though.
Maury and OSMITH both had the same open date but refused to play each other. Neither wanted to chance the loss. HSHS is not opening with Maury next year. I have confirmation that HSHS IS playing in Florida against one of their state champions,but since they haven’t played their championships,so the opponent has not been announced yet. HSHS’s second game will be at home vs Manchester at Home. HSHS added Hermitage and Glen Allen to next year’s schedule as a county requirement,so I believe PG and CForge are being dropped. Game 4 will be at Home vs Martinsburg again(2more years contract). They just lost in their WV state finals. I’ve heard Stonebridge is playing Martinsburg next year as well.
HS 1st game is supposed to be in Canton Ohio next year but I know they are working on the one in South Florida as well.
@Agibbs757 was saying Dinwiddie was on Maury's schedule next year. That is very likely, but I cannot confirm it.
Green run reminds me of Lake Taylor before they got over the Phoebus hump many years back. Maury seems to have a particular distain for Green Run. Essentially, they believe the green run kids don’t have the same bravado and toughness bc they are in VA Beach verses Norfolk. I lived in 757 for 14 years, ironically 5 years in various houses in the 40’s between Hampton Blvd and collie Ave (Maury) and about 6 years less than a mile from green run HS in va beach. I admire how green run has organically grown their program. Maury is super talented and always brings there A game. I’ll take Green Run with the upset this time around… admitingly not having seen one snap in person of either team this season, just call it a hunch.
Does the change of venue change anyone’s view on this game? Does the fact that it is calling for afternoon rain change anyone’s view? It definitely changed my views of the Stonebridge/Highland Springs game.
Not really I still think maury wins. Especially if the weather is bad they are more prepared as a running the ball winning ugly team. Green run is more big play chunk plays. And for that HS/SB game we all know they are prepared to both run that ball ifs the weather is bad. I'll say in general springs needs to keep that distance between them and SB and force them to run more spread than single wing. I've noticed that when you keep them close and they can stay using single wings that's when they become dangerous for a upset.
Do you have some insider info on Smith and Maury avoiding each other out of fear of a loss? I'm not affiliated with either school, but I'm sure they both respectively knew Phoebus and New Bern would give them games this year. Your statement seems to be even more of a stretch when you consider that over the last ten years or so, between Smith and their Coach Scott they have scheduled IMG, Booker T of Miami, Dematha, and Bosco, and at least three of those teams were legit top 10, if not top 3, in the nation. A VA school scheduling a power private is insane. I don't know anyone at Maury, nor do I know their thought process. However, I heard from two reliable sources that Smith talked with Maryland public power Wise in the past year, but the date couldn't be worked out. Wise would give any public in VA a game and was apparently also in talks with a Richmond area school (I assumed at the time it was HSHS). Instead of being afraid of losses, maybe Smith and Maury just don't like each other enough to work it out. I don't know, but without real info, I wouldn't make your statement.
HSHS scheduling is next level and they are definitely representing VA. Good luck playing a Florida team next year - will be rooting for you guys. Not sure how you know it will be a FL state champ, unless all of the teams still playing in the FL playoffs have the open date and willing.
The Maury coach has been all over twitter for 2 years saying exactly what I’m saying. They’ve been trying to schedule OS on the same OPEN DATE,but directly from him,the OS staff has continuously declined to play them. Those are HIS WORDS. Last year OS did decline,trying to play another national power,but this year he just indicated it wasn’t in their best interest to play them on their mutual open date.

First you said neither team wanted a loss and now you are going off of what a Maury coach said on twitter. Sounds like your first statement was misinformation. I don't do social media, but thanks for the info. Like I said, sometimes teams have no interest in working out a date. For example, over the past several years, St. Frances and St. Johns (DC) have probably had the most loaded teams in the Mid-Atlantic and flown past each other to play team all over the country. It has been rumored that they would never agree to play each other, but that doesn't mean either team is afraid of taking a loss.
I think I streamed the Miami Central vs IMG game earlier this year. I don't know what they bring back next year, but I'd bet they'll continue to have unreal team speed and great coaching.
