STICK A FORK IN THEM

I’m all for kids transferring to improve their academic and athletic situations. What’s lame as hell with this generation is they try to form superteams. What’s even more lame is these “adults” that call themselves “coaches” were renting vans and taking kids up 95 to workout at Hayfield back when DO got hired and into the summer. Their playoff ban is 100% correct call by the VHSL.

Similar situation happening down in South Carolina with a coach that left a state contender and brought a third of his team with him. The coach left Clinton High School (located halfway between Fayetteville and Wilmington) and ended up at Marlboro County (you more than likely pass through there if you go to Myrtle Beach coming down 220), which is about 100 miles from Clinton. WILD as hell that people find stuff like this legal.

VHSL director of communications Mike McCall clarified to the Times-Dispatch on Saturday that the league's sanctions are a "recommendation." I'm just saying, folks, better not count this as a done deal.

The two things that disgust me the most about situations like this are the example it sets, and the true lifelong resident kids that get cheated out of playing time or even playing.

Nobody can claim that the ends justify the means. I don’t want to hear any excuse, because there are none.

Cheating breaks every rule there is. Whether you are a Godly person or not, EVERY adult has an obligation to set a good example for young people. If your ego, your desire for self promotion, causes you to put this one obligation second to fulfilling your own selfish interest, then you are the lowest form of life.

And what about the kid that has limited talent, but loves the game enough to play every season since rec league? And what about his mother and father, and his grand parents that support him beyond measure? Then a coach comes along and coaxes players that don’t rightfully belong in the school district to come in and take playing opportunities away from that kid? That coach, and everybody that had authority for him are nothing less than the scum of the earth to me.

VHSL recommendation be damned. Fairfax County School System needs to drop the hammer on the entire lot of lowlifes that allowed this to take place.

"Recommendation" to who? If it was just a "Recommendation" then why is there a need to appeal until an actual decision has been handed down? This situation, if handled properly, could have been decided long before now. However, whoever greenlighted the original sham investigation in the FCPS just muddied the water instead of designing a true independent investigation of facts to resolve the matter. Whoever has true oversight for the FCPS Board and administrators should likely be asking, maybe even long before now, some very specific, and likely uncomfortable, questions of the parties involved.

From my understanding it is a recommendation from VHSL to FCPS and the Class 6 Region C principals and ADs (all of whom are FCPS schools). FCPS has already conducted their investigation and concluded no wrong doing. I would not be surprised at all if nothing comes of this and Hayfield meets Oscar Smith in the state championship game December 14th.

I guess that would be a jury of one's peers but, extremely unlikely to be an impartial one. I am also guessing that unless the VHSL shares its findings with FCPS it is unlikely those findings would be subject to FOIA and maybe not even then. It will be interesting to see the odor, if any, that will emanate from the final resolution.

They got what they deserve straight up. No debate, build a super team, displace the existing players, ruin the school you left and be so tone deaf your social media bravado is #hayfieldby50 slaughtering the downtrodden local teams. It’s not the action for me, it’s the brazen outright bragging about it that makes me have no empathy. It’s indefensible!

I don’t want to go back and forth with anyone, just my opinion.
I agree 100%.

With respect to the post above:
I see no “clarification” anywhere. I think that is erroneous information.
There is an appeal hearing tomorrow at 2:00 pm. There would be no appeal hearing for a “recommendation”.

There are a lot of eyes on this thing now and some that the various involved parties are likely unaware of at present. They will likely do themselves much more harm than good IF they try to cut corners again like they did with the initial investigation.

One question, does anybody know who the members of the appeals committee are and, if so, has that information been made public any where?

I also agree with OCBoy that this is already a disaster or, maybe more aptly, a bad joke. One group does an "investigation" and fully exonerates while a second group does an "investigation" and recommends a 2 year post season ban. Now they want a third group to call balls and strikes and decide the outcome? The disparity in the findings between the first two groups makes this far more than a difference of opinion to be resolved by an independent third party. I also doubt anyone is coming out of this vindicated or looking good.

Thanks for the info. I believe the composition of the Appeals Committee and the transparency with which they operate will be critical to how the final result is perceived. By the transparency with which they operate, I mean not only the disclosure of the decision but, discussion and disclosure, as allowed and appropriate, of the information and arguments from BOTH sides that they considered in reaching their decision.

Amen! 100% this!

Perhaps we need a VHSL capping the number of transfers on a varsity sports roster.

I am old school about this. You win or lose with YOUR kids. Period. Yes, I get that sometimes a kid from a nearby school system has dozens of friends on a team and would like to play on their team; but bringing in 24 transfers, most of them from the school you just left, is one of the most obvious red flags I've seen.

If you want to have open enrollment to create powerhouse sports teams, go for it. I have no interest in watching that.

You go to war with YOUR guys.

And this SOB needs to be let go, pronto!

"That same day, another Hayfield assistant coach, PJ Seilhamer, posted, “Just keep poking the bear. We coming for you all. No ****ing mercy.” He attached an image that read: “Hayfield vs. Everybody.”
I saw that on Twitter. A lot of people just want to be a part of something. I’ve heard about Hayfield 3 times in my life. Remember the Titans, they used to play in the GW Football jamboree in the early 2000s, and they won the C6 basketball championships a few years ago. If this wasn’t going on, Hayfield would be irrelevant like they’ve been most of my 30 years on this earth.

You can add one other connection. One of their former head coaches was Billy Pugh, Alger's son and former GW Danville football player.

I am assuming the entire EC must meet to render the final verdict. That’s 38 people to assemble, fast and in a hurry. I know that zoom is available, but I also know zoom is not preferred.
I would hope the final verdict is before the conclusion of the finals games.

Appeal lost!
Two comments, (1) the VHSL should be vigilant and persistent in administering sanctions against others committing similar infractions and (2) the VHSL has penalized the system, however, the system should discipline itself and its employees(the "adults") who aided, abetted and ostensibly attempted to cover up the situation. Kids should not be the only ones to suffer consequences.

The VHSL should have a committee in place to ensure this type of stuff does not happen across the state moving forward.

I think the committee work should be pushed down to the conference or regional level with responsibility falling to the activities directors to verify AND certify eligibility reports and underlying documentation. Then random spot checks/audits from the state level with prescribed and increasing penalties for initial and repeated violations.

Agree. Has to be something to prevent it getting to this point and destroying these kids.

News out of Hayfield. Below statement is from twitter.

Hayfield Update
FCPS, on behalf of Hayfield, has filed an injunction against the VHSL to insert Hayfield into the 6A State Playoffs. Robinson would be removed and the opponents rematched in Region C potentially delaying the playoffs statewide. The court will decide on Friday.

I saw that as well but I wonder how credible that source is. I haven't seen it posted anywhere else. No news outlets or anything.

I have not seen any reputable news source report this either, but I have been told from a person affiliated with an FCPS school "we were told of this today" when I asked.

@OCBoy, Fairfax doesn't use the normal Supreme Court Case Information System. They have their own. Go figure! I couldn't find anything on the site and it's difficult to maneuver. I also checked the docket for Friday and didn't see anything remotely close. I wonder if it will be heard in the district court first?

Just to clarify would this stop that region's independent playoffs or would this ground the whole state playoffs? Overton would become the most hated man in Virginia if it's the whole state.
It would delay the whole state and potentially move the whole playoffs back a week…this is why i think it will not happen
