Va vs NC match ups 2025

I agree. GW should win this ball game with Reidsville starting a young QB and they won’t be the same team without Cobb, who will be playing for the Tar Heels. Reidsville got beat up by a team who pounded the ball on them in the playoffs. Think GW will do the same with their horses on the line. What does the GW running back room look like this year? I am very impressed with the new QB Lipscomb.
Returning starter, Alex brandon, and based on GW’s 7v7 at UNC Lipscomb will be playing a lot of rb and Keshawn Waller who is very dynamic.

NC ball different bro. Gibbons is a private school that plays public ball.
Not really. Im from the 757 and now live in Charlotte. VA Top teams can play with NC top teams. Springs prove that against defending NC champ Vance. They won. Phoebus travel to Charlotte for a jamboree a while back and whipped Butler, Richmond Senior and West Charlotte. Only losing to Indepedence, which noone could beat at the time. VA can compete with NC.

Bro I said the same thing a few years back when Gibbons played Chambers (Charlotte) in the state championship. Chambers came to VA that year and stomped Highland Springs. Chambers had KC Concepcion (will be a first rounder this upcoming year) and James Pearce (drafted by the Falcons in the first round in April). Aside from 3-4 guys, the whole Chambers team is playing D1 ball this year. Gibbons stomped them boys in the ship. Gibbons is Salem on steroids. They just play physical, disciplined and assignment football. Gannon Jones is the name to remember. He’s Gibbons QB, going to Wake. Their o-line is 6’3-6’6. I applaud the two programs playing each other. Both teams will be better after this game.
Springs was not stumped. They lost by 9 and dominated Chambers, formerly Vance the following year.

Here we go… 1st game in Richmond wasn’t close. 9 points sure… Chambers shut them down and named their brand new stadium “Chambers North”.

Dominated is insane 😂 they won by 1 score and Chambers was up 17-0 at 1 point.

Were you even there? I was on the sidelines for both games…

Yes I was there. Chambers was up but Springs cameback and shut them down in Charlotte. Im not a Springs fan but I call it like I see it. You acting like Springs got dominated like Varina did in the championship to Phoebus 23 -6. Im sure you was on the sideline for that too. Springs and Chambers are 1 and 1 against each other. You act like Springs won in overtime.

Who will be the QB? Thought GW was a QB away from winning the region last year.
Competition between rising Jr. Oct Covington and rising soph Josiah Saunders. Saunders has a lot of upside but was hurt most of last year which hindered his development. Covington has led JV's last 2 years and knows the offense. I'd say so far this summer they are neck and neck. I don't know that the Eagles will rely on QB to win games as much as to manage them. The key to their success will be their ability to run and stop the run.

BTW, big Neo Cabell fan here. He was a solid QB for 3 years and will be missed. The loss to Salem was not on him. Salem outplayed GW overall and the 2 big first half runs were too much to overcome.

1. Chambers was up 24-7 on Springs in Richmond in the 4th quarter and HS got a late score and lost 24-13. Game wasn’t ever in doubt.
2. HS beat them the next year after being down 17-0 in the second quarter. HS won the game 28-20. The game in Charlotte is easily one of the best high school games I’ve ever seen and probably the best statement win a Virginia team has in years.
3. Just correcting your dominating statement. I don’t know how HS dominated Chambers in a 1 score game and Springers had to stop them at the 1 yard line as time ran out to win the game..

Springs had to dominate too by shutting Chambers down and scoring 28 points to 3. It could go both ways. Since u be on the sidelines, how did Varina blowout go against Phoebus. Didn't Phoebus score 20 unanswered points and had almost 200 yards rushing?? Don't disrespect Springs bc they fare better than Varina in big games and championships. Varina will be special this year but win the big game 1st before talking about another program that has won the chip a few times under Loren Johnson. Dont forget to answer the above question bc I know you were on the sidelines.

The discussion at hand has nothing to do with Varina/Phoebus. I don’t know what you Phoebus fans want from me 🤣 read what I posted on the C6 boards. I sang Phoebus praises and though I’ve followed Varina since 2017, I’ve been very realistic about the current state of coaching at Varina. Phoebus was the better coached team and dominated Varina’s front 7. You’d think Varina would’ve learned a valuable lesson from Huguenot on pregame trash talk? As a realist, they are still not on Phoebus level even with all of the transfers this offseason.

I’m a Chambers/Vance guy. I know those Chambers guys personally and worked very closely with their program. Disrespected Loren Johnson is insane 🤣. Was the first to hit Mayo and LJ up after they came to the crib and won. Some of you guys take this thing too serious.

No. Not too serious. I have my opinion just like you. Springs and Vance/Chambers are 1 and 1 against each other. I was just giving you the same energy you was putting out. I agree with you abt pregame trash talk. It means nothing and doesnt score any points.

Jamboree 20 years ago 😂. Not even a real game. That's a bit of a reach!

How about New Bern vs Maury. That was about same time as that Chambers vs Springs series. I guess we'll just leave that out.

I'm not saying you're wrong. But you really don't know who you are until you play somebody. The schools in NC play some of the best teams in SC and GA. VA? How would you know?

I shouldn't say "somebody." I mean someone capable of beating your ass. Someone beating you play after play as my guy Rickie Clark would say. That's how you know your limits.

Chambers vs Highland Springs was 1-1. Being around that team, they had smacked the Springers the previous season and “The Lick Back Tour” was more focused on beating Gibbons, who beat Chambers in the 4a championship the previous year. the week prior. I actually talked to LJ that day in Rock Hill and he said that 2022 team was better than the 2021 team that beat them in Richmond. HS won, but Chambers caught the case of having too much talent that year and thought they could turn it on and off when they wanted to. Highland Springs, Hough and AC Reynolds made them pay. That HS team was special and in my eyes is up there with the 2017 team. Make no mistake about it though, Chambers whipped them in their new stadium. I still call it JC Chambers North and I’m a Varina guy 🤣

Rising 6’4 sophomore Josiah Saunders who has a lot of upside and good arm talent or Octavian Covington who led jv eagles to back to back district championships. Saunders broke thumb last year as freshman and missed a large portion of year but came back and played receiver on varsity the last 3 games and had some success.

I think coach was just being a good sport. 21 was with the backup QB. 22 might've had more athletes all over the field, but 21 Chambers had the more physical defense at the LOS with Swindell (when he was healthy) and Pearce imo. Highland Springs was just young. They had a young QB if I remember. 22 was good game. Highland Springs was just a little bit better. That should be a good matchup between them and Hough. Should have an idea how good Hough is week 1.

Shoutout to VA for stepping up the outta state competition. Picking the top teams from NC is a great look for the state as a whole.

With that said, NC might get the clean sweep in the major games. Hard to see them losing more than 1 game.

Yeah ‘21 was different bro. Ten and Swindle were big losses for us in 2022. Bubba at QB helped us and hurt us that year too. Think a lot of the boys would’ve preferred Dymere Edwards if you asked Z Book, KC and even Bub today. We also didn’t have TJ McGill play in 2022 HS game. He messed that shoulder up in the Gibbons game. He would’ve been a huge difference in that Highland Springs game. Shoot, Dontrae Henderson was limited too with that ankle that game. No excuses, but that’s a FCS Freshman All American and a possible Big Ten starter as a Sophomore out and the Springers still had to stop us at the 1 yard line to win 🤣 still crazy we didn’t give the ball to Jordan Thompson.

I just read this. You gotta be trying to get likes now 🤣 nobody in Virginia is beating Grimsley, Hough or West Charlotte. I’d probably put Weddington, Mallard Creek, Indy and Rolesville in tier two that maybe Oscar Smith, Phoebus and Maury could run with. Hickory and Dudley would’ve give 95% of the teams in VA a 2+ score L this past year.

Hickory was cold last year for a school with maybe an enrollment of 1k. 71st has been tough as well the last few years.

I see reidsville having a hard time with GW. GW has 3 division-1 defensive lineman and are very good on the OL as well. They have a stable of running backs, a D1 tight end and return nearly everyone on defense. Reidsville lost the majority of their lineman on both sides of the ball and some really good skill players. They were never the same team last year after Jarriel Cobb went down. Reidsville struggled to stop the run last year. They also lost johnnyius sharpe and cam Jones who were really good players. Nonetheless less they will play hard and are coached well and are always a handful. Success never graduates at reidsville but looking forward to this game. It will be a homecoming of sorts for multiple GW coaches lin Stadler (used to coach at reidsville for years), Jay Perdue (longtime Cummings OC in their heyday who had many battles with the rams), and longtime Cummings head coach steve Johnson as well.

Most teams wouldn't be the same team if they lost a back like Cobb, especially so late in the year. Skill players will not be an issue. The line should be pretty big this year, I'd say it should be overall better than last year. I do agree, that it still may be hard to replace cobb and stopping the run could still be an issue. The rams have added a transfer linebacker though.

No doubt Cobb was a monster RB! Looking forward to the battle between GW and Reidsville. The eagles are not short on skill players either so it should be a good battle. Think the eagles overall depth and their strength in the trenches will present many problems for the rams.

Rams play Northern Guilford first, so that will give us an idea of where the rams are. At worse I'd say Northern and Gw are about equal level teams.

I wouldn't say that! I would tend to favor some of those teams. But these are all good programs with history of success. Fans sometimes forget these are young people. Anything can happen. I'm pretty familiar with Hough. They're probably going to be a handful. BUT last year, look, they were up by what 20 points in the second half against RH Northwestern and lost the game. That was with Trey Blakeney. Hough is capable of losing. Trust me, I've seen it 😂. I guarantee you no one on the sidelines will take any of these teams for granted.

Gibbons vs Maury is going to be interesting. It's been close between Gibbons and Rolesville last couple years. Rolesville has as much or more talent than anyone in the state. Bunch of good early games this year.

I would like to see it close, with the 804 boys winning it. I’m hearing Pooka Scott is the new OC at Varina which would change my opinion on the outcome of this game. For me, Varina will have to play some ground and pound football and get the ball into their playmakers hands. They looked very good last year but reverted back to their old ways against Phoebus.
I hope you are right pooka would be an excellent offensive coordinator for Varina. He coached my grandson in Varina Little League And he has a great relationship with the kids. He coached at Varina for a short period of time before he and his son moved on to highland springs.. yes Jonathan Lewis and Kevin Lewis and daddy Lewis I've done an excellent job at Varina. Yes I'm a great fan of Varina haven't missed but nine games in 34 years. The talent will be there this year but it's all about execution and discipline.. Win or lose against Grimsley this game should make Varina a better team.
