HOOPS ROUNDUP: Woodard has big night for Wilson in 66-53 win

Wilson Memorial 66, Page County 53

FISHERSVILLE - Wilson Memorial got things back on track with a 66-53 win over Page County in Shenandoah District boys basketball action Friday night.

Greg Woodard had a huge night for the Green Hornets with 33 points and 11 boards. Matt Poole added 13 points and nine rebounds of his own.

Wilson (12-6, 9-3) is right back on the court Saturday on the road vs. Luray (5-13, 3-9).

Harrisonburg 53, Fort Defiance 34

Harrisonburg dominated en route to a 53-34 blowout of Fort Defiance.

Ryan Cook led Fort in the scoring column with 14 points.

The Indians (5-12, 1-8) will return to action Monday at home to take on non-district foe Riverheads (8-8, 6-7).

Riverheads 69, Luray 62

Riverheads captured its fourth straight in with a 69-62 victory over Luray at home.

Grant Painter and Braeson Fulton both had big nights, scoring 22 points apiece.

Painter went 14-for-14 from the free throw line while Fulton hit 5 3s.

Riverheads (8-8, 6-7) has a quick turnaround as it will take on Parry McCluer on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as part of the Rock The Ribbon Roundball Shootout at Rockbridge County High School.

East Rockingham 65, Buffalo Gap 36

Buffalo Gap’s miserable 2017-18 campaign continued with a 65-36 drubbing at the hands of East Rockingham.

The Bison (0-17, 0-13) will be back home again Wednesday to take on Fort Defiance (5-12, 1-8),

GIRLS

Waynesboro 40, Turner Ashby 31

BRIDGEWATER - Waynesboro made it back-to-back wins with a 40-31 road victory over Turner Ashby in Valley District girls basketball action Friday night.

Sydney Sutton led the Lady Giants with 15 points while De’nia Jones added 13 of her own.

Waynesboro (10-7, 4-5) returns home Tuesday to take on Valley District foe Harrisonburg (14-4, 7-2).

Stuarts Draft 46, Stonewall Jackson 38

Stuarts Draft put forth a strong defensive effort in a 46-38 victory over Stonewall Jackson.

Monique Ayres led the Cougars while McKinley Fitzgerald had nine and Madi Armentrout scored eight.


Draft (6-13, 6-7) hosts Wilson Memorial (15-3, 12-0) on Tuesday in a Shenandoah District clash.

Buffalo Gap 46, East Rockingham 40

Buffalo Gap held off a late rally to defeat East Rockingham 46-40 on the road.

Leah Calhoun led the Bison with 19 points while Amaya Lucas had 13 points and nine rebounds. Brittany Hander added two blocks.

Gap (15-3, 11-2) is off until Wednesday when it hits the road to take on Augusta County rival Fort Defiance (13-3, 7-2) in Don Landes Gymnasium.

Wilson Memorial 41, Page County 32

Wilson Memorial remained unbeaten in Shenandoah District play with a gritty 41-32 road win over Page County.

The Hornets (15-3, 12-0) turn right back around Saturday and host Luray (4-13, 2-9) at home.

Harrisonburg 43, Fort Defiance 41

Fort Defiance suffered its second loss in Valley District play with a 43-41 setback to Harrisonburg.

The Indians (13-3, 7-2) are back at it Monday with a non-district matchup on the road vs. Riverheads (6-12, 1-12).
