VHSL Hoops 2A Top Ten - Through 1/23/18 Games

Looking ahead to next week's poll just for fun and the sake of discussion.

Well, Lee has lost two games since this poll came out to 3A Waynesboro and 3A Spotswood (#7 in 3A) - they will definitely drop - just not sure how far

Central - Woodstock lost @ Madison (who is starting to come on late in the season after a slow start)

Martinsville lost to Franklin County - Dawgs always play a tough schedule - record is always misleading

Grayson lost to one of the top 1A teams - George Wythe - so not a bad loss

John Battle lost to Union

Gate City and Radford will probably stay #1 and #2 respectively

Graham and Dan River should both move up to #3 and #4.

Goochland should move up to #5 since Lee, Central, Grayson and Martinsville all lost.

Rest should be Lee #6, Central #7, Grayson #8, Martinsville #9...

#10 could be a debut.....some possibilities could include Randolph-Henry (just beat Goochland), Fort Chiswell, Richlands, East Rock, Lebanon, Wilson, Stuarts Draft (winners of 6 in a row)......or Battle might just hang on to #10

John Battle, Lebanon or Richlands shouldn't even be considered for the top 10.

Well the problem this year is there are only so many "good" teams with good records - then you have a large of group of teams that aren't quite as good, but somebody from that group has to be #10

Yes. True. But Union isn't in the top 10 and they beat two of those three teams I mentioned.

This is kind of like the NCAA and whether the ACC is better than the Big 12 or SEC(although we all know for certain the ACC is king...). The northern end of the Shenandoah Valley doesn't get to see the southern VA teams and vise versa so it's difficult to get a really good idea of who the best teams really are. Sure looks like Gate City is the team to beat this year but not sure about the rest.

Just one example... Radford(undefeated) gets a 15 point win over Floyd county while Stuarts Draft beats Floyd county by 20 and was up by 30 when they took their foot off the gas. SD is a middle of the road team in the Shenandoah district with losses to Lee, East Rock and Wilson. Central Woodstock has played East Rock and split with them and the rest of their schedule has been pretty weak.

I guess all this will work itself out here in the next couple weeks... should be entertaining.

Plus, I am sure the Shenandoah boys is like the Mountain 7 girls. A murderer's row of great teams.

In the Mountain 7 girls, you have 5 teams who literally could win a state championship this year. Wise Central, Ridgeview, Union and Gate City in 2A and Abingdon in 3A. Pretty amazing that maybe only 2, and at most 3 will still be playing after region play.

Ha! Funny.
Its true. Look it up. From top to bottom, the SEC is better. ACC better at the top, but after UVA, UNC and Duke, maybe Clemson, who is any good? SEC could get eight teams. Vandy just beat ranked TCU. Unranked UK won at WVU. Bama beat OU. UT won in Ames.

Let's do it like this: Duke, UNC and UVA: Ahead of UF, Auburn and UK (although UF had Duke beat). After that, I think UT, Bama, Arkansas, TAMU are better than next four in ACC.

Man is the thread about the NCAA or high school basketball. LoL, Com'on man!!
