I am laid up in bed with the flu, so I've got some free time on my hands and was wondering...what would the state tournament look like in a 64 team bracket? Something fun to do while we wait for district tourneys to end and head into the real show.
Now, obviously this isn't perfect. I used the VA Preps Top 10 and then MaxPreps (I know, I know - but it's all we got). I ranked every 2A school from 1-51 (sorry, Amelia County). 1-10 are the VA Preps rankings and then the rest pick up with MaxPreps from 11-51.
Round of 64 (Wed, Feb 21) - Games played at high seeds
Round of 32 (Sat, Feb 24) - Games played at high seeds
Sweet 16 (Wed, Feb 28) - Games played in double-header fashion at Highest Seed left in each bracket of 16. Team with the most travel will play first in order to get home quicker.
Elite 8 (Sat, Mar 3) - Games played at Super Site of the higher seed team
Final 4 (Wed, Mar 7) - VCU
Championship (Sat, Mar 10) - VCU
Travel would be the biggest issue. I kept most first round drives under 2 hours...some went to 3-4. Arcadia (who would have to travel everywhere) is 8 hours from Lebanon. I could not find a viable solution for that one - so sue me.
Bracket rank is the first number. Overall state ranking is in parentheses. Travel time is listed.
I have it in a spreadsheet with brackets to make it easier to read..but don't know how to format that here.
