Interested in a 2023 Football Pool?

I have posted a Pick'em (with a spread) of mostly 6C & 6D with other games of interest for the past several seasons. Participation has fallen off a bit recently but if enough people are interested I can post one each week again this season. First one would come out for games on 25 August.

Pick em Rules

I will select a combination of East & West games this fall for our Pick em to keep us occupied.

Each correct pick is worth 1 point apiece, with the GOW worth an extra point. Anyone that picks every game correctly will receive 2 bonus points.

Some games chosen will happen before Friday, so get your picks in early to avoid losing points for late submissions. You are not allowed to edit your picks after games start or you will get a 0 for the week, because I have no way to know what your original picks were. To be eligible for the playoffs you must participate in the majority of the weeks.

Feel free to email me suggestions for games at mike24885@gmail.com

Good luck with your picks!

Thoughts on Out of Season Practice

In May of 2011, the Executive Committee adopted a plan that allowed out of season practice. Twelve years into this rule, Im curious as to what others think about the rule and if they think it needs to be amended or removed.

I ask because I have seen a lot of kids locally become stretched really thin this summer with their various team coaches all having practices, and expecting their kids to attend all of them!

I know of one kid in particular that told me that on any given day he could have football, basketball, and track practice all on the same day. I wonder if it has caused some kids who would be good in multiple sports to decide to drop a sport just to have some time to themselves.

Smaller schools that depend on the same athletes to participate in different sports, how do you handle it?

Sussex early season test

Here we go folks! My Tigers will have to be sharp early; they will not have the luxury of opening up with an easy schedule as they face a perennial powerhouse in Essex on opening night, then they follow up with Lancaster, then a resurgent King & Queen, next up those scrappy young men from Colonial Beach. If Sussex survives this and comes out with an 4-0 record, they will be hard to stop as the season progresses. Essex has owned Sussex for a while, this game will be a confidence booster if the Tigers can pull this game off.
