Calpreps has Maury winning this one! I have my own prediction for this one. Heck, the last 2...
HS 35 Maury 0
HS 28 Stone Bridge 14
HS State Champs, 5 out of the past 6. I watched Maury destroy a helpless Deep Creek team that looked like a bad JV team! Stone Bridge has a pretty good team, but they have not seen any defense or an offense quite as stout as what they might see when facing the Springers. They too will have a huge problem moving the ball against that Springer defense. If there is a team out of that Northern District that SB plays that has anything close to HS, I want to know who they are! ...and they have Massaponax winning over Oscar Smith? I haven't seen Ponax play, but I have seen Smith! Oscar Smith is scary good! TheTigers take this one in a blow out!

For those of you coming down to the 757 for Saturday's HSHS vs Maury game, here are a couple of great eats for your pre / post-game meal.

Pierces BBQ - Williamsburg, always packed & takes online orders.

Tommy's - Hampton Mercury Blvd. Always busy but closes @ 3 pm. This has been a regular, local place for me & friends to eat at before the State Games. ***CASH Only****

NoFrill Grill Ghent, Norfolk, close to ODU's Field, great food

Fellinis Ghent, a bit further down Colley Ave. Very good Italian

DuMar's Drive In. Burgers, a couple miles east of ODU, on Montecello Ave....BBQ, ice cream, shakes. Basic food but a local favorite. I love their Orange Freeze!
(Maury HS is across the street, behind this place). It will be packed after the game!

Orapax's Greek Italian, great, fresh flounder. Ghent but South of ODU close to what we call the Midtown Tunnel.

Good list, but I'm disappointed you didn't include the Dirty Buffalo on Colley Ave. Wings and football go together.

Several top-tier picks here. Dumar’s fried chicken is the truth. Pierce’s is delicious (if you like their sauce style). No Frill is goooooooooooooooood. I’m still having visions of that London broil pita I had there years ago.

There's a lot of good places along Colley Ave if you're looking for other locations, 21st Street connecting Colley & Monticello has some good places, too. There is a beer & burger place that I just can't remember but they have great food.

Tommy's is one of my favorite places. It's out of the way for me but whenever I go, it's a joy. Breakfast All day, great fried chicken, and a hidden gem is their Tuna Steak Sandwich!! That tuna is fresh & it would be a $20+ plate @ other restaurants!! The wait staff have all worked there for years & if you ask them what's good, you know it will be!!!

I got a NFHS network subscription and have been watching a lot of football as of late. With that said, I think Stone Bridge is the best team in Division 5. I was impressed with there size, and athleticism. Looking forward to watching these games this weekend. My prediction SB 37- HSHS 23

HS got off by not playing Manchester or Herm. It is what it is and nobody in Henrico County or Chesterfield is sweating it. Looks like it’ll come down to Herm/HS for the foreseeable future since Manchester is moving up and Varina is moving down. To call SB’s offense “rec league” is funny.. SB is one of the best coached teams in Virginia. I don’t talk to much trash to Hoosprings because he’s a Marine, but come on man 😂.

From what I saw, SB looks like the real deal this year. Im claiming them the too early to tell Div. 5 Champs. That D line was big and quick. #33 was a stud and have the speed on offense. IMO

I'm not of fan of SB, but I have to respect Coach Thompson and their program. They may not be flashy, but it would be crazy to overlook them.

Matt commented in his YAC podcast that he thought it could be Stonebridge's year. HS will be prepared but they have to get past Maury on Saturday. I gather from the chatter here on VaPreps that HS is not as solid @ QB as they had been. If that's even remotely true, it'll be hard to get a title!

If you read my posts. The QB situation at HSHS is suspect at best, dont have a stable of backs like years prior and defense isnt as experienced. but they have dawgs so sometimes they just have to go out and get to the bone. SB looked like a well oiled machine at all levels. what is the YAC podcast? how do i listen?

I’m going to reply here and let’s just hang onto our horses for a second. If having a 6’4-220 pound quarterback, with five college offers, that in his last two games has thrown for over 300 yards combined, three touchdowns and has run for two more touchdowns....if that’s “suspect”,I’ll take it! Those numbers were against a 4-1 Varina, that completely shut down hermitage and a 5-1 Prince George that I just recently beat Dinwiddie. He’s been a different QB since the other QB went down vs Varina on the second play of the game. Offers show that! The 5’10-210 pound division one COMMITTED running back hasn’t really needed a stable behind him, he scored from 50 yards out against Varina, but there is another 200 pound running back behind him when he needs a break that also has 2 college offers. I don’t even need to discuss the wide receiver corps, because there isn’t a better receiving corps in the state, regardless of what level. Three out of the five offensive line made 1st or 2nd team all region. The defense is second to none! I can guarantee you, neither Maury Nor Stonebridge has seen a defense anywhere close to as good as the one Highland Springs has. All 11 starters on the defense have at least one college offered, four have committed to power five teams(2 to Oklahoma). Nine of the starting 11 have power five offers. If Maury or Stonebridge has seen that much talent on any defense this year, please share so I can watch that video. As far as someone saying that Stonebridge has only punted twice this year, it’s not hard with the garbage they play against up there. As far as Maury, one person has already mentioned that it look like two JV teams playing when they faced Deep Creek.

"The QB situation at HSHS is suspect at best, dont have a stable of backs like years prior and defense isnt as experienced." HS's defense isn't experienced? LMFAO! That D-line is nasty! The defensive backfield was stated by Calpreps, maybe the best in the Country! All of the 11 defensive starters have D-1 College offers.... You call this inexperienced?

I must have read right over that inexperienced comment! Lol!! I guess people do not realize, all of our kids decided to stay, despite Covid, and are now playing in the spring. Power 5 studs everywhere! The coaches son has an offer from Oklahoma and he can’t even get on the field as a starter!

I heard what he said, and honestly,I laughed about it. SB has played NOBODY even close to HSHS’s level. Maury has 2 linemen going both ways. HSHS has a 4-star DE(Gilliam)and a 3-star DE(Pernell). It’s gonna rain,so trying to pass against the best secondary in the state will be next to impossible which leaves you trying to run a 160lb RB against a D1 front 7 with tired linemen. I guess Matt forgot,HSHS has a COMMITTED D1 RB. HSHS gonna line up in that Power-I,again,and Ram it down their throat...AGAIN.

FTR....I kinda figured he’d pick the 757 teams.but HSHS is being HSHS now,no longer going through the motions.

I'm sorry, I dont watch games thinking about how many offers kids have and what there rating is. I watch how they perform and Stone Bridge defense looks solid, I said what i said. How many of those guys on defense at HSHS made it thru the gauntlet and got a ring? That's what I meant by inexperienced. But again, i believe yall get past Maury but SB got it this year. Humble opinion as always.;)

5 defensive starters got rings! Gilliam(Oklahoma commit),Bugg Jones(Boston College Safety commit),Harmon(Oklahoma DB commit),Jabari Parker(VT DB commit),and All-State DT Peyton Jackson all were on the field the last time they faced SB. 8 defensive players were on the field when they faced Maury. The only games you REALLY need to watch are the last 2 games. They beat a “hot Varina team”,and manhandled a 6-1 PG,and their 230lb RB. Both QBs found it very detrimental to try to throw on HSHS. I promise you....Stonebridge hasn’t seen anything close to as good as HSHS. As Stonebridge has already seen three times, Highland Springs is nothing but pure speed,at EVERY POSITION!

I guess I've been able to separate my team's expectations for success from the kids' accomplishments. They ARE different in that talent can cause distraction and division on a team.
I agree with that! Last year,in point,a player playing a position he “didn’t want” to play.but he knew,at the time, he was the best option. As talented as he was,it caused bad chemistry in the end. Great post!

Let's see "How many of those guys on defense at HSHS made it thru the gauntlet and got a ring?" I'm not sure how many of the 21 are Seniors, but all of the Seniors in this 21 have 2 State Champion Rings. Not too shabby when it comes to experience!

In 2019, I saw a lot of new starters who did not make a state playoff run(run the gauntlet). On this same board in 2018, you and HooSprings would tell anyone who would listen how all your starters were 3 year starters with the most experience. So how were those young kids getting the reps your talking about and contributing, play in and play out? Did they dress and get some action, sure and did they get a ring as underclassman, i bet. But of those 21 seniors, how many started on those championship teams? Coach Johnson said himself in those youtube episodes, dont go off of what the previous group did, you have to prove yourself. This bunch other than Harmon, Gilliam and maybe Jones havent really been on the field like that. Again, I think HSHS squeaks past Maury but SB is on another level.

230 lb running back?! #1? Oh ok, it does sound better though for bragging purposes, i get it. I watched RVA Sports Production last night, I didnt see 230 running the ball. That big back from South County, maybe 230 but #1 from PG wasn't that. Good luck to yall boys saturday, i want to see yall matchup with SB.

A lot of hub bub over nothing! How many on the 2015 State Champion team had rings? 0! How many rings do you need to win a title? SMH!

Good game to both teams and definitely will be looking forward to seeing these two battle next definitely for the state championship because both will definitely be back
