Bethel jumped out to a big lead then held on to send L.C Bird to their first defeat with a 71-58 win. Bethel's lead was too much for the Skyhawks to overcome. They led by as much as 22 points.
The Bruins had three players in double figures led by sharpshooter Kyle Foster who tallied 21 points including five treys. Junior Dajour Dickens added 18 points primarily on dunks and Jeremiah Owusu earned MVP honors with 16 points.
Bethel led 10-2 early and 15-4 after the first eight minutes of play. Dickens had eight 1st quarter points. The Bruins limited L.C Bird to only 1 of 8 shooting from the field.
The Bruins extended their lead to 26-8 halfway thru the second quarter with the help of back-to-back turnovers which led to layups by Cam Bacote, and Jeremiah Owusu.
Foster's second three of the game gave Bethel their largest lead 31-13 with three minutes to go before halftime. A monster dunk by Dickens from off an Owusu pass, followed by powerful stickback slam from Owusu closed the first half with Bethel ahead 37-19.
Bethel continued their offensive display and a corner three by Foster made the score 41-21. Another alley-oop dunk from Bacote to Dickens kept the Bruins comfortably ahead.
The Skyhawks finally woke up in the second half and ended the 3rd quarter on a 6-0 run that changed the momentum of the game and and cut the Bruins lead to 50-39 heading into the 4th quarter.
Jumpers by C.J Donaldson and Johquin Wiley sliced the deficit to 10. Foster and Wiley traded 3-pointers until a dunk by Dickens kept the Skyhawks comeback bid on hold
Back-to-back steals by Charles Falden led to baskets that pulled L.C Bird within seven (63-56) with 1:41 to go. However, the Skyhawks could get no closer. Owusu set Dickens up with another dunk and Foster nailed four free throws in the final minute.
