Josh Chapman scores nine pts for Blues in a defensive slugfest.

PM to face Covington in Sat. final.

I must have missed a memo. When in the world did Narrows join the Pioneer District? That has to be a traveling nightmare. Wouldn't it be a hundred miles or more to come to PM for a game? Not to mention trips to Bath and Highland.

Kind of like James River travelling to Carroll county, couple hours drive. I think they changed districts this year. Pioneer is all division 1 schools now since JR went to TRD.

Yeah there is some travel struggle in the area. Carroll and Alleghany coming to TRD makes travel interesting for those who have been there previously. The addition of JR is great though. They are a great school for the district. The other two...I'm still holding judgment. Not on quality alone, now. Geography and fans traveling are factors as well

Does Highland still play a Pioneer District schedule? I thought they were down to playing private schools and a few teeny tiny schools out in WV...and still losing sadly.

Looks like I was further out of the loop than I thought. I did not know that JR had moved from the Pioneer. As for Highland, our local paper (Staunton) used to cover them and Bath but they decided that they did not have enough circulation over there to continue doing so. So we get very little news anymore about either of those schools.

Therefore I don't know if Highland still plays a district schedule or not. Once in a great while, you will see them mentioned in the paper as having played a local Christian school or something, so that might be about it.

Also there is another school simply called Highland that must be somewhere in this general half of the state, because whoever they are, they sometimes play games around here too, which adds to the confusion over whether it is them or Highland County.

Yep, there is The Highland School in Warrenton and I'm sure they play Fishburne from time to time in b-ball. Im not sure why, but Highland High and VSDB used to play in basketball each season but that has fallen by the wayside. Seemed like a good natural rivalry for two very small schools. I'm fairly sure Highland is in the midst of a very long losing streak but I cannot string together a full schedule with results for them. In fact, they even played PM's JV team a couple years back and lost to them. I think they play Afton Christian and Union Christian over in Stanardsville as well..good luck finding scores on those!

Did you realize they had a soccer team for a few seasons a while back?

All sports at JR except football moved to TRD fall of '16 w football moving in '17. They still play Parry Mcluer and Covington in most sports.

The trip from Narrows to Bath is a little over 2 hours, kind of run up WV line to get there

The one and only time I drove from Covington to Bath County, I thought I would NEVER get there. So 2 or even 2 1/2 all the way from Narrows sounds ambitious to me. Whatever, too late to debate it now, since all of you are already on your way. Safe travels everyone!

I never found it to be that grueling...although it feels like you're going uphill the entire time. You did go up 220 didnt you? I hope you didnt go through Douthat...

Plus, the Country Cafe makes it all worthwhile once you get into Bath.
