Only the first few seconds of this one were promising for Oakton. On the opening kickoff, the Cougars pinned Chantilly back on their twelve yard line. But on the first play from scrimmage, Charger quarterback David Tammaro tossed a short pass to Cush Eastman and 88 yards later it was 7-0 with still 11:40 remaining in the first quarter. And that was just the beginning. Chantilly scored on each of its first 4 possessions. A four play drive made it 14-0; a field goal after the Oakton defense stiffened deep, made it 17-0, and it was 24-0 by halftime. A short-handed Oakton offense, meanwhile, playing without its starting quarterback and starting center, could generate little of anything in the first half. A bright spot for the Cougars was Nick Delgado's punting - he booted at least 3 in the first half that went more than 50 yards in the air. Oakton's defense - which seemed to toughen after about the first two minutes of the second quarter - pitched a shutout in the second half until the game's final minutes; and a 36 yard Delgado field goal and a 33 yard Zion Green run (Green was at quarterback in this one) gave Oakton its points. For Chantilly, quarterback Tammaro played very well all night; he spread the ball around and looked in firm control. Oakton falls to 3-3 and has Centreville at Centreville next week. Chantilly, now 4-2, is home to Herndon.
