Myles Anderson with 7 yards on the ground. Next play Wyche overthrows DaMari Carter. These two are usually money.
3rd & 3 it is a QB keeper to move the chains. Ball sitting at their own 33. Devin Henderson picks up 6 before Brendan Thompson brings him down.
Kaleb Wyche crosses the 50 on the keeper... correction at the 50 as Noah Jefferson makes the stop or should I say trip. Wyche escapes two tackles but only has 1 yard to show for as Nathaniel Anthony stops him in his tracks.
Kaleb Wyche appears confused out there and runs right into a muddle of Blue Devils & Phantoms. Unenviable spot for Varina, 3rd & 11 with 40 seconds to go in first half.
Wyche passes to Myles Anderson who wasn't the intended target and Varina will punt with 31 seconds to go in half.
Varina gets good roll off punt and ball is downed at the 5 yard line. 17 seconds to go, Phoebus will probably opt to take a knee and go into the half with a lead.
Varina has to feel good to be where they are considering how many penalties they racked up but if they are to win, they need to cut that out in the second half.
At the half Phoebus has 144 yards on 23 plays and Varina has 132 yards on 29 plays.
Varina has 8 penalties for 70 yards compared to 1 penalty for 5 yards for Phoebus. That hurts in a game of this magnitude.
Maurikus Banks has 95 yards and a TD completing just 3 of 7 pases. Brendan Thompson has been a beast on defense with 8 tackles.
Varina is led by Kaleb Wyche with 46 yards passing with a TD and 3 of 8 passes. Wyche has just 43 yards on 14 carries.

Devin Henderson stopped at the 50 with a 13 yard run. Move those chains, Varina cooking again with a slow developing play from Kaleb Wyche. Little trash talking going on out there, refs not letting this continue.

Phoebus backed up at their own 23 and the only man between Davion Roberts and a touchdown is Myles Anderson with the stop but not without 39 yards gained!
Braylon Hood is quick to Roberts this go around, a gain of 2. Maurikus Banks tucks and runs for a gain of 5. Davion Roberts trucking the Varina defense. Just call this the Davion Roberts drive.
3rd & 7 for Phoebus. Big moment for Varina defense and Banks escapes the sack of Jaysean Richardson but cannot make anything of it. 4th & 7 coming up. Go for it or opt for field goal?
Phoebus goes for it and Braylon Hood gets to Maurikus Banks. Varina takes over 1st & 10 at their own 22.

Kaleb Wyche is almost picked off but instead falls incomplete. 2nd & 10 coming up... Wyche has had a very different game than what many in the 804 are used to seeing. Credit the Phantoms defense.

Wyche hit as he passes, ball falls to the ground. Varina will punt, Phoebus should have with excellent field position.
Shocker... Varina called for a penalty... it is declined however. Then Phoebus is hit with a penalty but the Blue Devils are still forced to punt facing 4th & 5.

Davion Roberts met by a host of Blue Devils but not before picking up 2 yards. Roberts then carves the defense up again with a run but the play comes back due to a yellow against Phoebus. Phoebus now facing 2nd & 17 at their own 41.
Maurikus Banks hits a wide open Noah Jefferson for a first down. 18 yards on that pass, Phoebus at the Varina 41.
2nd & 8 the Phantoms face QB Maurikus Banks pulled down by Jervell Barksdale. Phantoms face 3rd & 8.
Banks opts to throw it away with no one one open. 4th & 8 the Phantoms will choose to punt. Varina gets the ball and actually loses yards on the return spinning backwards. Varina takes over 1st & 10 at their own 6!
Dangerous territory if you are Varina, no room to breathe and Devin Henderson carries it before he is stopped. End of 3rd quarter Phoebus leads 9-6
Varina faces 3rd & 5 at their own 11 with 11:34 to go... Kaleb Wyche is down on the field after an awkward slide. Should have the first down but at what cost?
2nd & 9 for Varina... offense is shaped differently without the dynamic Wyche. Hansom thrown into the fire at the biggest stage.
3rd & 9 Hansom cannot escape Nathaniel Anthony. Varina must punt from their own 15and a terrible punt has Phoebus in favorable field position. It seemingly is falling apart for Varina in this fourth quarter.
9:33 to go Phoebus. Phoebus Davion Roberts fumbles but the Phantoms Byrhin Gilliam recovers in the end zone. 9:21 to go Phoebus leads 16-6!
Devin Henderson swallowed up for a loss of 2 by Nathaniel Anthony. 3rd & 12 for Varina and Hansom is picked off albeit out of bounds. Varina will punt, offense is sputtering.
Phoebus is looking to put this one to bed up 16-6 with 8:05 to go and the ball at the Varina 22.
Jaysean Richardson gets to the quarterback. Penalty assessed to Varina for personal foul. Phoebus 2nd & 2 with the ball at the VArina 14
Fumble for Phoebus who is able to make the cover. Ball is now at the VArina 17 with Phantoms facing 3rd & 5.
Taejon Cheatham gets in the way of Davion Roberts and the end zone. Phoebus at the Varina 11 with a fresh set of downs.
DaMari CArter makes the stop, ball still at the 11. 2nd & 10 for Phoebus with under 6 minutes to go.
