The VHSL state cross country championships for Classes 4, 5, and 6 were held on Saturday, November 16 at Great Meadow Park in The Plains. In the state's largest classification, West Springfield's Spartans took three of the top five places to cruise to the Class 6 boys title. Oakton and W. T. Woodson finished second and third, respectively. West Springfield improved upon last year's runner-up finish. West Springfield's Sean Stuck finished ahead of the pack to carry off the individual champion's medal.
The girls Class 6 race featured a much tighter finish, as the Bruins of Lake Braddock slipped by John Champe , 89-97. Ocean Lakes took home the third-place trophy. Lake Braddock claimed its second state title in three years. John Champe's Bethany Graham won the girls individual crown.
