1) Central-Lunenburg (5-1) 21.5
2) Bruton (4-1) 21.0
3) Poquoson (3-2) 19.6
4) Amelia (3-2) 17.4
5) Greensville (3-2) 17.0
6) Arcadia (4-2) 16.167
7) King William (1-5) 13.833
8) John Marshall (1-5) 13.0

**********************************************
9) Windsor (2-4) 12.5
10) Southampton (1-4) 12.4
11) Nandua (1-4) 11.6
12) Nottoway (1-5) 11.333

CLASS 2, REGION A:

1) Poquoson 22.286
2) Central-Lunenburg 22.25
3) Bruton 22.0
4) Amelia 19.0
5) King William 17.0
6) Greensville 16.667
7) Arcadia 16.0
8) Southampton 14.571
----------------------------------------------
9) John Marshall 14.429
10) Nandua 13.857
11) Windsor 12.875
12) Prince Edward 12.429
13) Nottoway 12.5
14) Randolph-Henry 11.0

ANALYSIS: Amelia is looking good at 5-2, and they host #2 Central-Lunenburg next week. Winning out could get them higher. Poquoson's schedule is challenging with Bruton and Lafayette, plus one-win New Kent. Central only has Cumberland and Amelia remaining. Despite a tough regular season, King William, at 2-5, thanks to strength of schedule, can fend off challenges down the stretch with Mechanicsville (Class 4), West Point and the annual King & Queen Central showdown to come. John Marshall has 6-1 Brunswick (Class 1), Booker T. Washington (Class 3) and Riverheads (Class 2, also 6-1) left. One win, depending on how Southampton does, could be enough, two wins should be for the Justices.

OTHER CLASS 2 REGIONS:

REGION 2B: 1) Central-Woodstock 26.857; 2) Riverheads 25.0; 3) Buckingham 23.0; 4) Fort Defiance 21.375
REGION 2C: 1) Radford 25.75; 2) Gretna 21.143; 3) Glenvar 20.571; 4) Chatham 18.429
REGION 2D: 1) Union 24.875; 2) Graham 22.429; 3) Ridgeview 20.125; 4) Tazewell 19.857

FOOTBALL: VHSL REGION RANKINGS, PLAYOFF PROJECTION FRIDAY PREVIEW

Take a deep breath! And away we go! Who's in, who's out, what's left to be done, and more in our deepest dive of the season into the Virginia High School League (VHSL) football region rankings!

(X--clinched playoff berth)
(Z--clinched #1 seed in region)

CLASS 2, REGION A:

1) X-Poquoson 24.222 (7-2, vs. Lafayette (7-2) Friday)
2) X-Central-Lunenburg 22.3 (8-2, regular season complete)
3) X-Amelia 21.889 (7-2, at Buckingham (8-1) Friday)
4) X-Bruton 21.556 (5-4, vs. New Kent (1-8) Friday)
5) X-King William 20.444 (4-5, at King & Queen Central (3-6) Thursday)
6) X-Greensville 19.25 (5-3, vs. Brunswick (7-2) Friday)
7) X-Southampton 17.667 (4-5, at Franklin (4-5) Friday)
8) Nandua 17.0 (4-5, at Northampton (5-4) Friday)
---
9) Arcadia 15.3 (5-5, regular season complete)

ANALYSIS: Poquoson has all but wrapped up the top seed. While Central-Lunenburg cannot catch them, mathematically, Amelia could with a win over 8-1 Buckingham and a Poquoson loss to Lafayette. But several other game results must go a certain way for the Raiders to have any hope. Just below Amelia are Bruton, who could take #3 away from the Raiders. King William, at #5, roots for a New Kent upset of Bruton so, with a win Thursday at King and Queen Central, the Cavaliers could leapfrog and take the #4 seed to get a home game in the region quarterfinal round. The top five cannot be caught by the others, so it's Greensville, Southampton and Nandua fighting for seeds 6-8. Arcadia is only alive mathematically and can only tie Nandua for eighth. However, they need Charles City to upset West Point to have a shot.

OTHER CLASS 2 REGIONS:

REGION 2B: 1) Central-Woodstock 27.333, 2) Riverheads 26.111, 3) Strasburg 23.625, 4) Fort Defiance 23.444
REGION 2C: 1) Radford 27.4, 2) Gretna 23.778, 3) Glenvar 22.444, 4) Appomattox 20.556
REGION 2D: 1) Union 27.222, 2) Graham 25.778, 3T) Tazewell and Gate City 20.889

Can you clarify the point scenario for how an Amelia win and Poquoson loss could put Amelia in the 1?

Good field remaining. I think any of the remaining teams could win it all

Take Amelia and Glenvar out. Amelia bout to get baseball batted upside the head. Radford gonna put up numbers on Glenvar, might drop 65
I was re-thinking Amelia as soon as I posted it. Glenvar has good coaching and decent athletes, you never know with that group, but I wouldn't be surprised if Radford rick rolled them either.
