GW-Danville Scrimmage

GW Defense got 4 ints against Winston-Salem Prep. I know it don't mean much in a scrimmage but GW will much improved from last year's 12-1 team!

Also sophomore QB Trey Branch is going to be something special. He has huge shoes to fill in order to do what Hunter did these past 2 seasons but he's more than capable of doing that. Don't be surprised to see this kid receive some serious honors at the end of the year. Let's go Danville!

Hey Mike they look very good against the run. But it's only a scrimmage so hard to tell how they would do against a good running team but that will be tested their first home game against Vance High school out of Charlotte NC. GL to your Salem Spartans this year. Will keep you posted on GW throughout the season!
GO EAGLES!!!!

Thank you Lewis, good luck to your GW Eagles also. Looks like the West will be tight at the top between several teams.

Much improved from 12 - 1 and beating eventual State Champ Magna Vista? Plus, they lose two players responsible for more than 50 TD's last year. Your opinion has no basis in objectivity. Just say optimistic super fan and be done with it. Plenty of Jet fans out there too that think they'll win the SuperBowl. Welcome to the insane club, where you'll have lots of company.

I think he was referring to the defense as being much improved since they had 4 interceptions in the scrimmage.

Shauntclair he was referring to the defense. Defense will be much improved and I credit this to Mr. Alex Ramsey after he embarrassed them last November. They really worked hard this offseason and these guys are HUNGRY to prove people wrong. They got revenge on Cortland this past year and they have Salem circled for the last week in November this year (confident GW and Salem will be apart of the last 4 left in 4a North). I put GW and Salem in the same category. Both had a tremendous 2015 class with Salem's seniors making the state semifinals 3 years straight and a state championship appearance and GW's senior class only loss 6 games in 3 years. Of course GW's seniors didn't have the championship pedigree Salem's seniors had but both teams had some good quality players. GW is not going to lay down just because they lost 50 touchdown production in Byrnes and Clements just like Salem won't lay down losing Fox, Isaiah, and the rest of their historic class. Somebody will step up! GW probably won't go 10-0 this regular season and yes, they have a lot of unproven players on the varsity level at important positions, but I definitely wouldn't count this team out because "you think" they're losing 50 touchdowns in Byrnes and Clements. A LOT of young talent was on the field against that very talented Salem team and that was a great learning experience. CJ Graves (fumbled in Salem territory when GW was driving down 28-21), Jamil Griffin (stripped late in the game aka Alex Ramsey's big defensive touchdown), Donald Smith and Isaiah Guzman (big time catches all year; D1 prospects), whole defensive line returns (3 D1 prospects), John Stephens (linebacker who was kicked out of the Salem game; D2/D3 prospect), and secondary (Clements gone, NC Stats commit Tim Glass returns)... Theyll be ready.

GW takes a step back this year. That's my take. If it's not so, I eat the crow. Won't be the first time and I never hide. Rub it in as much as you want.
As far as Courtland goes, GW won the game. Well done. No excuses. GL in 2015.

@sh-AUNTclair :eek:I just choose not to respond to any of your post! Always negative. Thanks @mike salem and @DanvilleSportsHead for clarifying for shhh-AUNTclair!!!!
For those who have never known, the correct pronunciation is Shawn-t-Clair. It is from a Shakespearian character. One drunken night in College, all the guys in the dorm were naming their junk. Don't ask me why. This was College in the 70's and it should be understood that beer was not the only substance involved. It was fun at the time and everyone was recognized by their chosen names forevermore. We're not talking 5 - 6 guys. We're talking 75+. At least the name was unique. I didn't sit back and research it. Again, I went to Private Schools my whole life. I was required to read all the works or William Shakespeare. It just came out and I've been stuck with it since.

I don't try to be negative. I do like to keep things in perspective but people don't like it when you pop their balloon. Understood.

I never read much into scrimmages, good or bad. I recall one year Gretna's offense looked terrible in a scrimmage. Then the Hawks proceeded to average over 50 points a game once the whistle blew for real.

New England Patriots are the same. One year they lost every pre-season game. Went on to win the SuperBowl. Belichik does this right. Pre-season is evaluation time and a chance to design what your next practices will emphasize. Winning and losing has no place in pre-season.

No need for anyone to rub it in. You say GW takes a step back, that's your opinion. Games are won on the field not the VA Preps message board. Much improved schedule, 15 starters return including a hand full of college prospects (4 have D1 offers) and a very good coach in Anderson who has shown this program how to win in just 3 years. The players love him and has bought into the system. I don't see how they take a step back???? Should be a great year!

My judgement is on one thing. Can you replace 50+ TD's? I say no and seen it happen too many times to bet on yes. The number of teams like this I can role off is endless. The number of teams that have accomplished this can be counted on one hand. GL in 2015.
