Down by seven with under two minutes to go in regulation, Potomac - ranked No. 5 in the latest Class 6 Top Ten rankings on VaPreps - rallied to force overtime against visiting Gainesville in the opening round of the Region 6B Tournament. However, Gainesville was able to pull through six of the ten points in the overtime and reach the regional semifinals for the first time in school history, prevailing 58-56.

Cedar Run District Player of the Year Preston White led the way with 16 points and four steals. The Cardinals will take on district rival Patriot, who they beat late in the regular season, with a spot in the State Tournament on the line. Patriot was tied at half-time against visiting Brooke Point, but cruised in the second half on their way to a 77-52 victory. The Pioneers are trying to win a fifth straight regional title.

Also of note in Friday's games was what Heritage-Lynchburg did in the first round of the Region 3C Tournament, topping Turner Ashby 74-51 as freshman guard Miles Tyree drained five of the team's 12 three-pointers. Tyree finished with 22 points for a Pioneers team that next travels to third-seeded Staunton (21-2), which is riding a 16-game winning streak.

Only one game on the docket for regional play on this final Saturday of February 2025, but it featuers the lone unbeaten VHSL Boys Basketball team...
