Blog LIVE 4A Championship Blog - Dinwiddie (14-0) vs. Salem (12-1)

Good afternoon from Zable Stadium at William & Mary. We have a little over an hour till kickoff in this contest that pits 12-1 Salem against 14-0 Dinwiddie.

Salem has been to the finals 10 times and won it 7 including last years thrilling double overtime win over Lake Taylor.

Dinwiddie has been to the finals 3 times with just 1 one title, that came two years ago over Sherando.

Zyan Sturdivant leads the Generals in the run game. He has 1203 yards and 18 touchdowns this season on 179 carries. That is double the next leading rusher, Tye Freeland with 602 yards and 14 touchdowns!

Tye Freeland is also the leading receiver on the team with 606 yards and 11 touchdowns on 30 receptions. Two other players, Derrick Jones and K'Vaughan Pope have over 400 yard each and have combined for 11 touchdowns themselves.

The man who gets them the ball is Bryce Witt who has thrown for 2408 yards and 27 touchdowns. He has completed 138 of his 223 passes and only thrown for interceptions.

Tye Freeland is also a threat on defense where has 9 interceptions to lead the team, special teams where he has 7 kick returns and a touchdown.

Salem's Noah Beckley has completed 111 of 169 passes this season for 1802 yards and 26 touchdowns. Like his counterpart on the field, he too has 4 interceptions.

The leading rusher in the absence of Deangelo Ramsey who is no longer with the team is Riley Fox who has 96 carries and 563 yards plus 14 touchdowns. Not far behind him is quarterback Noah Beckley with 498 yards and 8 touchdowns.

Riley Fox is a stud on defense as well with 100 tackles this season, 5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Kionte Burnette leads the team with turnovers, 2 forced fumbles and 2 interceptions.

Receiving belongs to Viante Tucker who has 862 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns, nearly triple the next receiver on the team.

If you have a prediction on this game I'd love to hear it. Most people seem to think Dinwiddie will come out on top but... if there is anyone that can take down the Generals, it is the Spartans.

For those who have not heard, these two will meet in the regular season beginning next year.

It'll be close. Texted BN & DP earlier and DP is on edge! I think the Generals have a bit more and wins by a score or two. It'll be interesting to see Salem's potent offense against a nasty Dinwiddie defense. It will be a lot of athletes on the field. Good luck to both teams.

Saw them two coming in. DP looked in good shape then but he might have taken up heavy drinking and chain smoking in the few hours since, lol! Like you I feel Dinwiddie has just a little bit more but seeing these Salem boys on the field now, they got some big boys that might make it tough on the Generals.

Sticking by prediction however, Dinwiddie 28-21

K'Vaughan Pope drops first pass thrown by Bryce Witt today. A flag comes out on the field as well against Dinwiddie pushing them back on their first possession of the day.

In the first game today we saw several dropped passes or passes off the fingertips... That is not a problem this time however as Pope hauls in a pass that had a Salem hand get on it. Dinwiddie is in Salem territory at the 46.

Another Witt pass to Juanye Pitt and the Generals are rolling early with the pass game. A host of Spartans in on Tye Freeland on the very next play.

Tough drive for Salem. Had a third and long stop but missed the interception and it got tipped straight to Pope on a fluke play. Dinwiddie got rolling after that.

Beckley hits Tucker who is forced out by K'Vaughan Pope. Spartans are across midfield and moving the ball well on Dinwiddie D.

Derrick Jones trips up Riley Fox to keep him from a touchdown but the Spartans have the ball at the 17 of Dinwiddie threatening.

Big play for the Spartans to convert the third down with a pass to Joseph Quinn. Fresh set of downs as Dinwiddie has had trouble early stopping Salem.

On this latest series the Dinwiddie defense has seen something because they have had two stops and now the Spartans face 3rd & 15 after big plays from Davon Clayton and Tim Fields of the Generals.

Just like that the Spartans are in business again with a huge pass to Viante Tucker that has the Spartans at the Dinwiddie 27.

Beckley carries the ball and is met by Pope and company. Now Salem faces 4th & inches as we start the second quarter.
