Big win for the Phantoms. Pressure either bursts pipes or creates diamonds. Today we saw which team was on which side of the pressure.
I have only seen him play in about 8 or 9 games. He has zipped a few when needed but I think he just instinct in touch to try to put the ball in the right place. Whoever missed the Salem pass got a better one today.
Dominated them defensively but it’s going to be hell to pay at practice this week with the special teams unit.
It was a very good game hats off to the kids; man I don’t like second guessing coaches but the difference today was coaching. Great game tho.
Flip side of this game is Warwick showing up and not backing down. Do they have anything to potentially give Maury a game?
Unfortunately I doubt it but I hope someone steps up. HSHS drops back down to C5 so we might have to wait for them to challenge them in the future.
No. They might not even make it past Granby/Kings Fork. It’s the same thing with them every year: talk nonstop offseason about beating Phoebus (not winning a state title) and dominant all the lesser teams then lose to Phoebus and go to playoffs win a couple games and get beat in the playoffs. Literally happened 3 years in a row…well playoffs part to be determined.
From what I saw today Warwick will have its hands full with KF. Granby will have to come through Maury if they make it pass Nansemond River.
You know the seeding? I know Kings Fork, Granby and Warwick will all be 9-1 going into playoffs.
I think we will see Granby vs Warwick in Rd 1.
I see Nansemond River vs KF and Maury vs the winner of Granby/Warwick Rd 2
And Maury vs KF for the Regional Championship.

How? Maury will be 10-0 and Granby, KF, and Wick will be 9-1 and NR will be 8-2. So Granby and Wick will be 4 and 5 seeds?

Warwick was celebrating with 4 minutes to go as if the Phantoms have not demolished multiple team's hopes, dreams and biggie bag dinner plans with these miraculous 4th quarter comebacks over the years. There's a telling that on cold and windy nights inside Darling Stadium Austin Grebe can still be heard saying, "But I was in....wasn't I in?" No. Austin you were short.
Dinwiddie fans know all about that feeling. I think the ghost of Darling Stadium made its way up 460 West in 2010. The Phoebus fourth quarter comeback still haunts us and provides a sense of respectful distaste for the Phantoms.
Rewatching the 56 yard pass you can tell their players were unfocused because Ro Smith caught the pass on 3 Warwick players. The one Warwick DB tried for the pick instead of batting pass down. He does that then Phoebus is most likely 8-1 and all the win streaks are over.
Strength of schedule will separate them..Granby probably has the least PP based on their district competition. 2 and 3 will be on the same side bracket so KF/Warwick should be good game. My grandson just told me that Warwick will beat KF🤣🤣
Warwick has the players to beat anyone in Division 5 not named Maury honestly. It’s the coaching that they lack
Everyone keeps talking the coaching lacks for Warwick. They 9-1 and almost beat Phoebus yesterday. The coaching had the players on the brink of an upset. I love my phantoms but don't slight coach Hairston and his staff. He built Warwick into a good program that can contend. Besides Maury..I believe they can beat anyone else. Noone could say that a few years ago. I love what they are doing over there and to be honest. Each yr they get closer and closer. So show respect bc coaching ain't easy, It takes alot of time away from ur family with little pay.
This sounds good on a forum surrounded by people that have no clue what’s actually going on outside of game results.
I’m just keeping it real i will not go into details. They have stacked the team with transfers last 3 years plus the PD is very down right now and their OOD game is a bad Grassfield team…that’s why they’re 9-1. The DC is the only coach on staff that is legit in my eyes. They have a lot of people on the sidelines that just talk trash online and do nothing else. I could really go in because it’s a reason Maury’s DC is so vocal about Warwick.
One last thing let’s be honest Phoebus had Phoebus on brink of an upset. The special teams blunders is the only reason that game was close. They did absolutely nothing on offense but one play…they talked all offseason and season and did nothing to back it up. If it’s not obvious yet i don’t like that staff and the parents that talk in those Facebook groups.
