Region 5B Semi-Finals:#4 Varina Blue Devils vs #1 HSHS Springers @ Hermitage HS

The best football in the past 7 years has come out of the Richmond area! 3x State champ Bird and 4x Champs HSHS.
I have no doubt in my mind that this year, the 8th year straight will come from the 804. HS has already knocked #1 in the 757, Smith. Top 3 Colonial Forge from NOVA and #2 & #3 in the 804, Manchester and Varina!! How much more convincing can HS be? I know, Win #5 straight!

I would like all us fans of 804 football to take a moment and think about where we stand right now. We are bragging about the dominance of 804 football and it has been dominant no doubt about it. Well said. We all love our teams, but sometimes let humility take a back seat to bravado. Personally, I enjoy good football wherever it is played in the state; I just wish I could get out to see more of it.

If it rains or a bad field it favors hs to win tomorrow

A sunny, dry field favored HSHS 2 weeks ago. I’m hoping a dark,slightly damp field will favor HSHS this time.

I still think HSHS has more, bigger,better athletes than Varina,regardless of ANY conditions!

Can Varina mix it up and move down the field, or do they rely on big plays all night? Is HSHS going to "uncharacteristically" turn the ball over due to wet conditions?

I'd say HSHS will make the adjustments(DE's contain ALL night) while Varina has to play an error free game and hope for self-inflicted mistakes by HSHS.

It is a turf field. I look for HSHS to force Varina to drive the field,and try to avoid giving up big plays,seeing if Varina can be patient.

Varina showed in the 2nd half two weeks ago that they can go on long, sustained drives, mixing up nice running plays and short passes. They should do that all game if they want to be successful this time, and not panic if HS's defense makes a nice play, like a TFL. Too many teams panic when that happens, and the game snowballs. Keep feeding #6 and good things will happen!

Do y’all realize,Varina only scored once,the entire second half,with HSHS’s BEST defender missing all but 2 minutes of that half? Their LSU commit,Malcolm Green,missed 95% of that half,and they still held Varina to only 1 score.

Correct! They both sat out last week,and are expected to return tonight. #3 was throwing up on the sideline at the last Varina game.

I’ll definitely take Johnson’s changes over Brown’s. Johnson has undoubtedly the best coaching staff in the state,and has proven it with in-game adjustments over & over again! Let’s see how much the wet turf field affects the speed of the game.

That field might be a little bit damp. That little shower that passed over is long gone and the stars will be shining tonight....It's going to be a great night for football, not too cold, not too warm!!! Field conditions will be perfect!
