Final - Norview 52, Lake Taylor 46

The Norview Pilots - ranked #4 in the state in Group 5A - pushed their record to 6-0 overall by beating the host Lake Taylor Titans, 52-46 in Norfolk on Monday night in a game televised on Cox 11 and the Hampton Roads Sports Network.

Up 24-20 at the half, Norview pushed its advantage to as many as 14 before Lake Taylor made a rally to cut the gap within four late in the fourth quarter. The Pilots struggled from both three-point distance (4-of-19) and at the foul line (10-of-21), but hit enough free-throws down the stretch to hold off the Titans, who dropped to 2-2 overall on the year.

On the year, the Pilots came in with five players averaging in double-figures in points. Three reached double-digits on Monday with Greg Heckstall leading the way with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Daevon Brown posted a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds (nine offensive), while Damion Madison chipped in 10 points, four boards and four assists.

For Lake Taylor in defeat, junior Travius Smith hit for 20 points for the third time this season. He scored 15 of his 20 in the second half, going 6-of-12 from the field and 7-for-13 at the charity stripe to go with four boards, three assists and three steals. Another junior, Amahd Elliott, recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Elliott also shot 8-of-14 from the floor and blocked three shots.

Helping keep the Pilots unbeaten was their length at multiple positions, which showed in their work on the backboards and challenging shots. Norview grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and blocked seven shots with five different players making a rejection.
