Leading 21-14, Westfield's defense had to stop Yorktown inside the 10 yard line in both the third and fourth quarters to get the victory.
WF received the opening KO at their own 32 yard line and advanced all the way to the Yorktown 6 yard line where a 3rd down Jenks pass bounced off the receiver, up into the air, and fell into the hands of YT's Blackwell who returned it to the YT 4 yard line. YT ran three plays and then punted, with WF's Coffield signaling for a fair catch near the 35 yard line but he muffed the catch and YT appeared to recover the ball-but YT was flagged for kick catch interference and WF got the ball on the YT 14 yard line. This time WF made good, scoring on a 1 yard Jenks run to jump out to a 7-0 lead (Nicklas XP) with 42 seconds remaining in the first quarter. YT's next possession started on their own 26 yard line but several plays later YT's Casalengo fumbled on the WF 44 yard line. WF recovered but failed to move the ball and punted. YT then punted to WF, and this time WF went 55 yards to score on a Jenks 6 yard QB keeper around the left side to extend the lead to 14-0 (Nicklas XP) with 7:08 remaining in the first half. YT's next drive went 70 yards for their first score, a Greene to Montecino 21 yard pass to cut the lead to 14-7 (Yoon XP) with 3:45 remaining in the half. WF's Morin took the YT KO back 39 yards to midfield, where a YT facemask penalty on the return pushed the ball all the way to the YT 35 yard line. After WF's Duda ran for 21 yards to the YT 14 yard line, two plays later Jenks ran it in from six yards out for his third score of the game. WF led, 21-7 (Nicklas XP) with 32 seconds to play in the half. After a YT three and out the teams went to the locker room.
YT took the second half KO at their 28 yard line and, changing to a quick passing offense, went the 78 yards to score on a 9 yard Greene to Merritt pass to cut the lead to seven for the second time, 21-14 (Yoon XP) with 8:47 to play in the third quarter. At this point in the game, it seemed like we were in for several more scores, but the defenses of both teams tightened up. WF's next drive moved 24 yards before YT's Luca stepped in front of a Jenks pass at the WF 41 yard line and returned the ball down the home team's sideline all the way to the WF 2 yard line. However, a block in the back penalty moved YT back to the WF 22 yard line. YT moved the ball down inside the WF 10 yard line before facing a 4th and one at the WF two and a half yard line. YT ran a QB sneak up the middle and the WF defense held to stop the drive. WF's possession could only gain about 10 yards before punting the ball back to YT. The kick was short and YT had great field position on the WF 37 yard line as the third quarter came to an end. Shortly after the start of the fourth quarter YT's Greene fumbled on the WF 38 yard line and WF's Whitton scooped the ball up and ran into the end zone, but his knee was down and WF took over on their own 44 yard line. WF again failed to gain significant yardage and after reaching the YT 37 yard line did a quick kick to pin YT at their own 10 yard line with 5:05 remaining in the game and YT 90 yards from the tying score. After using the passing game to reach just over midfield, YT's Luca pulled down a 26 yard pass from Greene in double coverage at the WF 16 yard line. The next YT play was a 9 yard pass to the WF 7 yard line and it was second and one for YT with the clock around 1:30 and running. The next YT pass was incomplete to the corner of the end zone, followed by a running play on third down that was stuffed for a 2 yard loss. YT now faced 4th and 2 from the WF nine yard line with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game.
