SJ won the opening toss and elected to receive, putting the kick into the endzone, and WF started the game on their own 20 yard line. After gaining one first down WF was forced to punt and SJ started their first possession on their own 22. After losing yardage SJ punted from their own 10 yard line and the short punt gave WF excellent field position at the SJ 31 yard line. After a run lost 3 yards, Kim found Richie down the middle for a gain to the SJ 1 yard line, where Kim ran it in for a 6-0 WF lead (Williams XP missed) with 4:24 to play in the first quarter. SJ began their second possession at their own 20 yard line and reached the WF 39, where they came up short on a 4th and 1 attempt. WF, starting at their own 38 yard line, struck on their second play when Kim found Richard on a long pass play down the middle of the field that went 62 yards to extend the WF lead to 13-0 (Williams XP) at the 11:48 mark of the second quarter. SJ then went 80 yards, successfully converting a 4th and 4 near the WF 40, with Jung finishing the drive with a 36 yard passing TD to Reese to pull SJ to within 13-7 (Melendez kick). After a good KOR, WF advanced to the SJ 40 before punting to the SJ 20 yard line. On the SJ possession they moved deep into WF territory before being hit with a few penalties and punting the ball back to WF just before the half ended.

SJ received the second half KO and the SJ player took off with the ball up the middle of the field. It appeared he was headed for the endzone before WF's Avery managed to chase him down and force a fumble near the WF 30 yard line. WF's Richard recovered and took over on their own 30 yard line. This turned out to be a huge momentum swing, with SJ threatening just before the half and then having what was most likely a TD to gain the lead stripped away. WF, however, did not take the opportunity to extend the lead and a short punt from the SJ 46 that bounced the wrong way gave SJ the ball on their own 37 yard line. SJ returned the favor and punted, pinning WF deep at their own 18 yard line. This time WF went 82 yards and Kim finished the drive with another 1 yard run to extend the lead to 20-7 (Williams XP) with 2:36 remaining in the third quarter. SJ went three and out on their next possession, and WF drove 64 yards before a 23 yard Williams FG at 7:46 in the fourth quarter extended the lead to 23-7. On the next possession things went a bit crazy. Starting at their own 38 yard line, a SJ play for a short gain ended in an over-exuberant tackle just out of bounds in front of the SJ bench. Multiple SJ bench players reacted, as did several players from both teams who were on the field, and a whole lot of shoving matches broke out that had to be broken up by coaches and game officials. After the officials sorted it out, WF was hit with 30 yards in penalties (there could have been more, on both teams, but there was a lot going on and the officials could not have seen it all). SJ used that emotion to reach the WF 25, including a play where SJ's Melendez somehow escaped a scrum of 6-7 players draped on him when the pocket collapsed to gain 12-13 yards to the WF 25. With the resulting first down SJ had an excellent opportunity to close the gap, but an unfortunate penalty on SJ and heavy WF defensive pressure changed all that. On the next play Melendez again escaped very heavy pressure in a collapsed pocket and took off. He appeared to be going to run it when he spotted a SJ receiver running parallel to the goal line and hit him with an excellent pass that was caught in the endzone, despite two WF defenders draped on the receiver. However, a penalty for an illegal forward pass, followed by another SJ illegal procedure penalty and two sacks, found SJ pushed all the way back to the WF 46, where a 4th and 39 pass attempt was short and incomplete. WF then ran enough plays to run the clock down to 1:25 before punting, but SJ was unable to score on their final possession.

Where was RB Mikal Legall last night? Isaiah Daniel played in Legall's place; Daniel rushed 20 times for 46 yards, or an average of 2.3 yards per carry.

Also, what is happening with WR Avery Howard? Has he been moved to the defense? He played very little on the offense last night. He was spectacular against Lake Braddock last week, and he appeared to be the fastest player on the field as he outran LB defenders.

When you take Legall and Howard out of the offense, the offense is noticeably degraded.

WR Alex Richard had a great night; he caught 7 passes for 164 yards, including the 62-yard TD pass.

Legall was away for personal reasons. SJ knew how dangerous Howard is (he transfered from SJ) and made the effort to shut him down. But SJ was also putting heavy pressure up the middle all game. Add those two factors together and the slants were there-Richard capitalized and had a great game. Richie benefited from that as well. WF has multiple weapons again this year, you cannot shut all of them down.
