We are Blogging watching the NFHS Network's coverage of #2 seed Centreville (10-2) at #1 seed Madison (9-3). The Warhawks of Madison are going for their third straight regional title, while the Wildcats Centreville attempt to avenge a regular season loss to their Concorde District rival to punch their State Playoff ticket.

Our snapshot preview and picks can be seen below...

#2 Centreville (10-2) at #1 James Madison (9-3)

Note – Is this the last stand for Villanova commit and Centreville RB Isaiah Ragland (1945 yards, 34 TD’s rushing)? The Wildcats certainly hope not, but they’ll need the offense to mirror more of the one that is putting up 46 PPG in these playoffs than the one that fell to Madison 21-18 back in October, marking their ninth straight defeat to the Warhawks since 2017.

Matt Hatfield – Centreville 20-14
Coach Ed Young – Centreville 24-16

Madison begins with the football at their own 20. They start off by running with tailback Angelo Jreige - who has 16 TD's coming in - with a gain of 5. The next play is a short completion from QB Mac Lewis to Nolan Wilbricht for about a yard. On 3rd & 4, it's Lewis using his legs to extend the play and scramble for a first down.

The Centreville defense - featuring two-way standout Thomas McCoy (17 TD catches) - is able to step up and limit the ground game. A miss after that brings up 3rd & 10, but the Warhawks are able to convert for 11 yards behind Lewis. A fairly effective opening drive here for Coach Justin Counts and company.

Lewis then scrambles for 10 more yards on an option keeper to the Centreville 48. Wildcats senior DB Kayvon Waters then clamps down and make a firm hit on Jreige to hold him to a gain of 3.

On a play-action fake, they catch the Centreville defense napping and biting down on the run, able to pop the tight end Wilbricht down the right sideline for points.

A great start for the Warhawks.

Apologies folks - - the NFHS stream is having some issues where it keeps popping up with "Your Event Has Ended," and comes back on and off momentarily. We'll try to pass along updates as we can...

At last check, Centreville's offense and has since gone 3 & out and Madison returned a punt a solid 40 yards into Wildcats territory, either near or inside the red zone as they try to build on their 7-0 lead late in the first quarter.

Good 'ole unreliable NFHS...

Hey, it's better than nothing, but frustrating when you have the stat sheet out, all set for a big game like this and it happens. Sometimes beyond our control (the joys and aggravations of technology!).

I'm sure they are diligently trying to fix it - - alerted the PxP guy.

Big completion from QB Bryan Resto to Ky Ridgeway-Davis, who made a couple impressive plays in their opening round playoff win over Chantilly. It puts the Wildcats in Madison territory. Gain we believe was 54 yards. Ridgway-Davis was a 1st Team All-Concorde District punt returner, so he could make a key play on special teams in this one as well.

However, the Madison defense stands tall and is able to come up with a stop on fourth down, taking over at their own 24 just a couple minutes into the second quarter. Out of a time-out, Centreville decided to go for it on 4h & 4 instead of trying a field goal of about 41 yards with Nathan Patterson, who has a reliable leg and is headed to William & Mary.

Credit Michael Delgado for making the crucial tackle for the Madison defense.

With seven minutes left in the first half, Madison successfully executes a fake punt and they're driving deep in Centreville territory, inside the Wildcats 20.

This is a much different Warhawks team than the one that started the season 0-3 with close losses to Stone Bridge, Lake Braddock and Yorktown.

Jreige now has 17 TD's on the year.

The NFHS Network folks are doing their best to get the stream working. In the meantime, Centreville finds itself in a hole against one of the stingiest defenses in the state. So even though the Wildcats put up 46 points per game, they need to find the end zone and respond before the break if they have any hope of breaking this nine-game losing streak in the head-to-head series to continue the march for a State Championship.

Madison increased its lead to 22-7 on a touchdown run from a yard out with their two-point try failing. However, Centreville is not out of it just yet, recovering a Warhawks fumble at the 14-yard line of Madison with about seven minutes to play.

Centreville turns it over on downs, getting stopped by the rugged Madison defense at the 9-yard line of the Warhawks. An ineligible man downfield wiped away a TD on 4th & 1 for the Wildcats.

So Madison is in position to win its third consecutive Region 6D crown, and in the process, beat the Wildcats for the 10th straight time.

A sensational job by Coach Justin Counts and his staff after graduating about 28 seniors from a season ago when they fell to Oscar Smith in the Class 6 State Championship at ODU.
