Out of sheer curiosity, which of our players has that reputation?

Peck. The kid is very talented. He had a great game, including the pick 6 that changed the momentum for Stuarts Draft. What I saw in the regular season, however, was a lot of showboating and cheap shots, stuff like grinding a player's face in the dirt after a play was over. He didn't do any of that against Richlands, he kept his mouth shut and played at a high level.

That is not who I expected you to say. Haha. Guess that's a great example of how differently people see games and behavior. Much like Richlands fans and other folks saying that this was uncharacteristic of 11, I would have said that anything beyond jawing was uncharacteristic of Peck.

Normally the people that get mad with me are the people who believed their team would be competitive with Appo and then when they were blown out of the water, they couldn't handle that someone called it. I only disagreed with BC when he said Asbury was the "best QB in the entire country". Some guy from Parry McCluer just brought up state titles from the 80's, I thought that was pretty stupid as well. Maybe I should just stand by and let people make asinine claims....ehh....who am I kidding, I can't do that![/QUOTES I
I was there right between the cannon and the FG post. Talked to one guy from Buckingham about the troubles they had this past year. He was really disappointed in the coaching staff there. Hope they can shake things up and come back strong. The Battle of the Axe is always a fan favorite here.

I don't think the Bulldogs have been matched up with a great defense like Appo this year. The Goochland QB was a big boy but the pressure the D put on him was fantastic. Goes back to the theory, "Offense wins games, Defense wins championships."

I was keeping up with the Richlands game on Twitter. @BlueTornadosLive has a great Play-by-Play tweetcast. I thought during the whole game that we would be playing SD in Salem. That come brom behind win will be talked about for a long time in Richland football history.

About the ejection of the Richland player, I wasn't there so I don't know the facts about the calls. If the player got one flag he should have been smart enough not to push the limit again. I know that emotion run hot during a game like this so I can't really blame him but so much.

I'll be heading back to Salem next week. Wrap up tight guys looks like it going to be a cold one. No more t-shirt weather like last year.
I was right beside you. The only guy at the game with a Buckingham hat on and green and black reflective jacket. A blind man could've saw me.

Coaches can and should constantly remind players about their behavior and actions on and off the field. Key thing is that must apply to all players, not just the 2nd/3rd teamers. Players need to know this. If you, as a coach, hold your best players accountable at all times, not just when everyone is watching, you will rarely have situations that Richlands has now. Coach Mance may do this, I don't have any knowledge either way on this, but this should be a great teaching tool for many years for him.

I've coached HS level for 30+ years and the toughest thing going against the coaches now is TV exposure of College/Pro. The dancing, taunting, trying to show the "look at me" players is teaching HS kids it's okay.

I've had title winning teams and had other teams get their butts beat every night and I never sacrificed my "Do the right thing" philosophy. Winning is great but knowing you did everything the best you can (the right way) while losing is important. You can't just say it, you must live it.

I would love to see Appomattox vs Staunton River. The 2 most dominant teams in their respective fields right now. I'd pay $20 to see it.
I'm not convinced SR will beat Blacksburg. The Bruins have found the right time to peak. They just convincingly best Phoebus. If they can play disciplined defense, they have a very real shot at winning that game. Their offense will put points up against a SR team who has allowed some points this postseason.

Wasn't at the Draft game to see it..and many might not agree with this...BUT if I'm a coach for Draft, after said player got his first unsportsmanlike penalty what less than a minute into the game? I'm telling my players get in his ear a little. It's one or your top players, if we draw another one and he's gone that's a positive for us. Now I'm not saying cheap shots...I'm saying just some talking...see if you can get a reaction and get his tossed. Which happened.

Not saying that's what Draft purposely did but I wouldn't blame them if they did. You see it all the time in college/professional sports. The player should've known after the first one that the refs would be watching and he would have a very short leash.

Another thing..when Richlands was up here to play Wilson I felt like their fans, players, and coaches were some of the best I'd ever met or seen. Tons of class an I still talk to some of them to this day. Also feel like that game losing the way they did after a late score and going into OT is why Mance went for two yesterday.

I think Staunton River will beat Blacksburg they've scored 60 or better every playoff game so far. Do they play in Salem too? If so I'm watching both games.

That may be what you were coached to do in Fishersville but we do things differently in Draft. I'm curious what @FaithFamilyFishersville114 thinks since he's also a Wilson guy.

After reading so much on Dinwiddie and these powell valley teams. I would love to see a few games. If anyone got a link, please share.

I didn't see anything bad after the game. Of course Richlands was excited when they won the game in exciting fashion and get a trip to Salem. I would say that both flags were warranted, but that is just one player and a kid and kids make mistakes and shouldn't be vilified for it and doesn't make an entire area bad certainly. As for the AD coming out on field, official called him out there for some reason. And the transfer issue, it doesn't matter if a team has them or not, you play the team in front of you, plain and simple. It was a great game by 2 great programs, let's not diminish it by all this negative talk

Wasn't the Draft defensive coach the defensive coach for Wilson when we faced them couple years ago?

Everything I have seen of Cody this year does not match what happen here.

Earlier in the week somebody posted something about a strength for Richlands would be the receivers and line play.
I sure that fired Draft up to prove them wrong, it would us.

It really bothers me some can take one instance and try to pass judgement on a coach that they have never had contact with.

It's not just in football that transfers takes place in. This is high school sports and should not be allowed. If a parent wants their child at a particular school maybe they should have looked at schools available before they took residence in such and such location. I personally liked that our school did not use that practice and we played against schools that did , but that made our victories even sweeter when we won.And when we lost we did not hoop and holler and use that as an excuse we just dug in and worked harder.

This is just plain ignorance, every player Richlands has lives in Richlands, If their parents move then that is their decision....saying that you wouldn't take a player because he transfered is just a outlandish statement. A minor can't just move himself, he has to follow his parents or legal guardians.

Please guys remember that everyone can have their own opnion right or wrong, that is their right, and no matter how outlandish they seem to be and how bad some may present themselves they have that right. With that said, there is a difference in illegal player and transfer. If someone lives in an area, no matter when they moved there, they should be able to play. I have no idea if Richlands or anyone else has transfers, doesn't matter. That was the team that was put on the field to play, and my alma mater and a lot of kids I know very well came up 1 point short on an incredible play and great comeback. If Barry Sanders is on their team, then you have to play him

Transfers are so common now. I would think there are very few teams that hasnt gotten at least 1 transfer in the last 4 yrs unless theyre just really struggling. A lot of teams just arent open about it as some. Richlands has them along with Graham, Giles, Hurley, Union, Bluefield, and Virginia High. Thats just the ones i know of locally. Yet Richlands is the only school i see brought up because theyre so consistent and are usually in the spotlight. Theyve won with them and theyve won without them. I believe its time to stop with the transfer talk because if youre playing a football game, chances are youre playing against a transfer.

I actually agree with your last sentence 100%

I beg anyone to do research of the 2015, 2016 Raider teams. All of our guys been playing together throughout the years and all are hometown Appo guys. All the kids parents know each other. These 2 teams are truly great and we take pride in our team being hometown born and raised.

Out of all the starters on either team, I think Devon Graves #14 would be only one questionable being a hometown kid (born and raised). We have adopted him though, lol. He came here in 6th grade i think (maybe longer). His dads people are from DC. He cousins with Kevin Durant somehow. He showed me pics of him and KD standing beside a pool at KDs house.

Coach Cash was already at Draft when Richlands came to Wilson.

I also don't believe that's what Draft nor Wilson would've been coached to do. I just feel that it would be a smart strategy. Stay in that players ear..see if you get a reaction.

I hope Richlands shocks 2A this weekend! JLA puts a beautiful spin on that ball.

I would really like to see that one. I am pretty sure they won't put 50+ on Appomattox but it would be hard to keep them at 30 or less.

Check out swvafootball user on Youtube. Here's 2 of my favorites

Also, this highlight of the '98 state game

Just watched 1st clip, WOW? Amazing speed on D and reminds me how Appo swarms to ball to quick. Question, WHO WAS THAT #22 RB?? That dude could flat out FLY!!!! JETS!!!! He is at 9:44 of clip then he has some other runs as well.

EDIT:
That run 30 seconds in on second clip though!!!! Amazing.
Just watched the rest of clip 2, Thomas Jones WAS A MONSTER!!!!!!! WOW?! Simply amazing!!!! He could change direction at top speed and not slow down a bit. what happened to him?

I will say these guys would definately compete with the Raiders (I noticed the name on scoreboard, was PV the Raiders?)

Thanks for sharing, I am not a believer in the PV teams and now i understand why yall have so much fan support.

Thomas Jones was the best. Went to UVA, spent a long time in the NFL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jones_(American_football)

22 was his brother Julius. Went to ND and and went to NFL too, but wasn't as successful.

PV was the Vikings. The Raiders was the orange team J.I. Burton in Norton, Va. The big back they had, #9, was Boo Sensabaugh. He went to WVU as a DB.

Those PV teams were dominate! For 1A Appalachia (the other half of Union) was just as good.

Transfers(recruiting) happens and VHSL looks "the other way".
I don't know what the vhsl rules are I dont think an institution of learning at this level should be involved in transfers/recruiting. They are in school for an education first and sports or what not are further down the list.
