This game was exceptional. Back and forth, full of big plays and tough defense for both teams. I have seen over 150 games in this area in the past 13 years and I cannot recall another game similar in excitement to this one in the past 6-7 years, with the exception of the 2011 NR Championship game where CV beat WF 27-24. This was "old school" Concord District football played by two very good teams.

After neither team did much in the early going, CV pinned WF deep in their own end near the end of the 1st quarter and forced a punt that was returned deep into WF territory. Ferrick soon hit Tutt with a 22 yard pass at the very end of the 1st quarter, 7-0 CV. WF punted again, and CV started at their own 20 yard line and drove down the field, capping the drive with another Ferrick to Tutt pass, this time for 42 yards and CV was up 14-0 with 6:09 left in the half. WF started their next possession at their own 20 yard line and quickly moved down field, capping the drive with a 21 yard run by Gray to pull within 14-7. Each team had one more possession in the half but failed to score. 14-7 CV at the half.

CV got the ball to start the 2nd half, and after WF's Delaney kicked the ball 74 yards on the kickoff after a 5 yard offsides call on the original kick (the young man has a phenomenal leg, the best I have ever seen in high school, and he is only a sophomore) CV was three and out. WF quickly struck back going 58 yards and ending the drive with a 22 yard Scoville to Scanlon pass to tie it at 14 all. CV got the ball back and drove to the WF 45, when Boose got 15 yards on a fake punt to keep the drive alive; then Boose ran it in from 19 yards out to put CV back on top, 21-14, with 1:49 to go in the 3rd quarter. Early in the 4th quarter, Scanlon caught another Scoville pass for a 39 yard gain to the CV 21 yard line, then two plays later Scoville connected with Brown for a 19 yard pass to the CV 1 yard line. Scoville then ran it in from the 1 yard line and it was back to even, 21 all. Centreville wasted no time in countering, putting together an 80 yard drive on 2 Boose 15 yard runs and a 50 yard touchdown by Richbourg to jump back out on top, 28-21, with 9:45 to go in the game. WF's Barrow returned the kickoff about 60 yards to get inside the CV 40, and several plays later Scoville hit Barrow with a 46 yard touchdown pass to draw WF even again at 28 all with just over 8 minutes left. On their next possession CV began driving and looked like they were going to score, but the WF defense stiffened and forced Centreville into a 4th and 1 at the WF 30 yard line. CV fumbled the handoff and the ball was recovered by CV in the backfield and WF took over on their own 32 with a chance to win the game; but WF would not score as the Centreville defense came up big when it was their turn to stop a drive. WF punted and pinned CV deep in their own end with 1:30 left and CV tried to drive but ran out of time. The game goes to overtime.

CV got the ball on offense first and scored on a 2 yard Boose run on 4th down, XP was good, 35-28 Centreville. Westfield countered on their first play of the first OT with a 10 yard Scoville run, XP good, 35-35. In the second OT WF's Gray lost 4 yards on the first play, but Scoville did it again with a 14 yard run up the middle to put WF up after the XP, 42-35. Centreville's Richbourg scored on 3rd down from 8 yards out, then CV elected to go for a 2XP. Westfield's defense stopped Nickens-Yzer on the goal line on a controversial call, and the game was over, 42-41 Westfield. The call was very close, as by the time the ball carrier was fully prone the ball was over the goal line, but he was ruled down just inches sort.

I have no idea how even the best trained referees make that call in real time. It's almost impossible to call when I see it on television with stop motion photography. As soon as the knee hits it's where the ball is at that instant, but the human eye isn't fast enough to handle the split second between that and where the ball actually ends up when they finish their fall.

Nice write up. Cville had no defense in the 2nd half. Once Tutt went out WF went right at # 33 and he was not match for Scanlon. Plus there was not much pressure on the Qb.

Thanks. To be honest, I did not even notice Tutt had left the game until a friend pointed it out. He did re-enter the game late, and seemed OK. Was he hurt?

Think it was his ankle. It happened near the end of the first half when Wf tried a double pass. He stayed on the sidelines during halftime. He did as you said re-enter but just one play of defense and probably as a decoy on offense.
