Blog LIVE Blog of Class 5 State Championship: Highland Springs 37, Stone Bridge 26 - FINAL

Waller gets the pass off to Ahmad Foster-Powell for a gain of 26 yards but then a flag comes out which they wave off. Springers have the ball at their own 39 with fresh set of downs.

Onside kick... Ball nailed Stone Bridge but the Springers came up with it! This game has changed entirely all with a bad decision of throwing the ball where there was no receiver from your own end zone...

Springers elected to pin Bulldogs deep with the ball at the 4. Stone Bridge has 96 yards to go in 35 seconds if they want a score before the half!

Due to some wife issues before the game I was unable to put out some info. With us at the half and no stats available I bring you some nuggets.

The Springers are a half away from becoming just the third team in VHSL history to 4-peat in football. Hampton was the first to do it from 1995-1998 and Phoebus completed the feat from 2008-2011.

Ironic that those two hold the distinction and yet this game that could see the Springers join this elite club is being played at Armstrong Stadium just minutes away from both Hampton and Phoebus.

This third meeting between Highland Springs and Stone Bridge is just the fourth time teams have met 3 or more times in the state finals.

Oscar Smith & Westfield faced one another three times from 2015-2017 with Westfield sweeping the Tigers.

Hampton & TC Williams faced one another in 1984-1985 and 1987. TC Williams won two of those meetings, Hampton won the other.

Central Lunenburg & Powell Valley faced off in 1985, 1989-1990 with Powell Valley sweeping the Chargers.

Only two programs have met four times... that being Brookville and James Monroe and the two split their meetings.

The Springers are up 23-7 at the half...

In 2015 the Springers won 27-7... not that far off from our present score.
In 2016 the Springers won 35-29... by the looks of things it does not appear this one will be that close.

PAss hits Tai Felton's fingers but bounces off the tips. However the Springers are called for pass interference and the Bulldogs have a fresh set of downs at the Springer 49!

Morris gets Nick Mell and while it appeared short of the first by my vantage point, the refs say otherwise. Stone Bridge 1st & 10 at the 29

McKeiver breaks one tackle but doesn't break the other. There is a flag on the field, holding the call against Highland Springs.

Waller just heaves the ball up there and who is there to grab it? Noneother than Tremaye Talbert! A huge gain for the Springers
